Why Sadie Robertson Huff Isn’t Afraid of Aging
By Movieguide® Contributor
On Sadie Robertson Huff’s recent podcast episode, she hosted her mom, Korie, her grandmother, 2 Mama, and her great-grandmother, Mamaw, to talk about aging and why you don’t need to be scared of it.
“My friends were all getting nervous to grow older…everyone was like scared to turn 30, and I’m 27, so I’m not there yet, and I was like really, ‘Y’all are scared to turn 30?’ And I was like, ‘I’m so excited to be 30,’ not that I’m rushing it,” Huff said. “I love being where I’m at, but I’m excited for 30, and they’re like, ‘Why are you excited to be 30?’ I was like ‘Well, because 2 Mama always said that she thinks women are just the most beautiful in their 30s.’”
“And so I’ve always been like 30s going to be awesome you know I’m going to peek at 30…I was excited about 30s because I’d heard you say that,” she told her great-grandmother, “and because like I see women in their 30s, and I think, ‘Oh they’re so beautiful’ and like you know, they’re crushing it…I think you painted that picture for me to see it in that way, and then…it kind of led me to a deeper thought of like why am I not scared of aging?”
Huff believes she isn’t afraid to age because she is close with her great-grandmother, grandmother and mom.
“Y’all have given me so much to look forward to,” she told them.
To her great-grandmother, she said, “And even….on your birthdays, you’ll say something along the lines of…I’m at the age I’m supposed to be, and there’s more in this age than there was in the last one, and like y’all have always just given me such a hope for getting older which is such a gift honestly to have that because I can see why the fear of aging would be scary.”
But Huff only found true contentment with her age last year.
She said, “When I turned 26 this year it was the first year I didn’t feel like I was older than I should be or wished I was younger than I was. It was just the year I started to really settle into where I was at,” she explained on social media. “I am 26 with two kids, and I drive a minivan! tbh there’s not one other stage in my life I’d rather be in.”
Mamaw shared one thing she learned from living so long is that there’s no use worrying about what’s next.
“We’re always going to have fears. There’s always going to be sickness. There’s always going to be death because that’s part of life, but you just have to not dwell on those things. You have to have to think ahead instead of behind,” she said.
Last year on Mawaw’s birthday, Korie shared memories of her and posted a thoughtful message:
My grandmother turned 92 today!! I really can’t put into words what she means to me. She has been there for me, for my kids and for my grandkids in every single thing we do! A constant encouragement, the warmest hug, a kind compliment, gentle wisdom at just the right time. No one loves better!! She shows up, she never gives up, she is fun and funny, generous and gracious, humble and confident, strong and kind! Happy Birthday, Mamaw Jo! I’m so grateful you are mine 😘
Movieguide® recently reported on Huff and her new song, “Mirror:”
“When we sat down to write that day, I said, ‘Let’s try to write out testimony, but in a way that leads other people to their testimony!’ I was not planning on writing based on my own experience that day. I thought I would help tell everyone else’s story — until someone mentioned writing on body image,” Huff said.
“As we started talking about what girls need to hear, I sat there quietly, thinking, ‘That’s actually what I needed to hear,’” she continued. “I opened up to my friends that day about how hard my teenage years were regarding body image and how much that held me back. I remember that, as I was being seen by many, all I wanted to do was hide. I was telling everyone to live original but struggling to do so myself.”
“I’m grateful now to say I don’t feel the need or desire to hide!” Huff proclaimed. “I know our lives are SO much more significant than we look like…our physical beauty is fleeting, but if we are so insecure that all we want to do is hide, how can we fully live what God has for us?”
