Movieguide® Contributor

Angel Studios is treating its audience to two original new movies and long-awaited episodes of TUTTLE TWINS and DRY BAR COMEDY.

According to an Angel Studios press release, new projects available this month on the Angel app and Angel.com are:

October 4 – NEW DRY BAR COMEDY SPECIAL

Comedian J. Chris Newberg – Way Too Soon

With a delightfully dark sense of humor, it seems J. Chris Newberg can make any topic funny, from Reese’s Cups to Rosa Parks.

October 10 – THE WAY (PG-13, 2010), Streaming on Angel

An American father travels overseas to recover the body of his estranged son, who died while trekking Spain’s “El Camino de Santiago,” but instead, decides to take the pilgrimage himself.

THE WAY stars Martin Sheen (THE DEPARTED, The West Wing), Emilio Estevez (THE BREAKFAST CLUB, YOUNG GUNS), Deborah Kara Unger (THE GAME), Yorick van Wageningen (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO), and James Nesbitt (THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY). The film was also written and directed by Estevez, and is based on the book Off the Road: A Modern-Day Walk Down the Pilgrim’s Route Into Spain.

October 11 – NEW DRY BAR COMEDY SPECIAL

Comedian Dennis Gaxiloa – Bible School Dropout

What happens when you add together two anniversaries, three near death experiences and all the latinos in the Bible? The answer lies only within Gaxiola’s second hilarious Dry Bar special.

October 17 – NEW TUTTLE TWINS EPISODE

S3E5 A Bitcoin Bash & Corrupted Cash

When inflation wrecks movie night, Grandma takes the twins—and stowaway Karinne—back to the Bitcoinverse. There, they learn about the risks of controlled money, CBDCs, and the freedom of Bitcoin. Plus, rocks. Lots of rocks.

October 18 – NEW DRY BAR COMEDY SPECIAL

Comedian K-Von – Say It Again!

In his explosive return to Dry Bar, K-Von provides riotous explanations for President Biden falling upstairs, illegal salon activities, and the effects of being half-Persian.

October 24 – 23 BLAST (PG-13, 2013), Streaming on Angel

23 Blast is based on the amazingly true story of Travis Freeman. A typical teenager growing up in a small town in Kentucky, Travis is a local hero on and off the field. In the prime of his youth, he is unexpectedly stricken with an infection that destroys his optic nerve, blinding him overnight. With the support and influence of his parents, physical therapist, coach, and best friend, Travis displays true bravery by competing on the gridiron, helping his team advance to the State playoffs. We follow Travis and his closest friend, Jerry Baker, from the time they meet on the football field as kids through high school. Jerry’s attraction to the dark side of adolescent temptations threaten to pull the friends apart. It is only on the football field where they truly connect.

The film stars Stephen Lang (AVATAR, DON’T BREATHE), Alexa PenaVega (SPY KIDS 2: ISLAND OF LOST DREAMS), Mark Hapka (PARALLELS), Max Adler (Glee, SULLY), Timothy Busfield (The West Wing), and Fred Thompson (THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER). View the trailer HERE

October 25 – NEW DRY BAR COMEDY SPECIAL

Comedian Jeff Applebaum – Nut. Free. Zone.

A native New Yorker and MIT educated engineer, Jeff Applebaum navigates life in California, sharing the insanity of his diverse family, inconsistent behavior all around him, and raising children in a ‘participation trophy’ world. It’s not anger – it’s funny!

Other projects on the horizon are BONHOEFFER and HOMESTEAD.

Movieguide® reported on BONHOEFFER last year:

“[The movie follows] Dietrich Bonhoeffer (Jonas Dassler), a pacifist pastor determined to live his life with uncompromising political and spiritual courage while choosing to live in Berlin during the Third Reich,” Deadline reported. “Conspiring to bring an end to the Nazi regime, he fearlessly spoke the truth while facing unyielding oppression and evil. His impact is still felt around the world today.”

The WWII movie releases in theaters on Nov. 22 while HOMESTEAD, a post-apocalyptic story, comes out in theaters Dec. 20.

In HOMESTEAD, an ex-Green Beret takes a job at an elaborate prepper compound as an apocalypse ensues. Those in the compound struggle to share resources and ideas. They’ll have to decide whether they’ll be stronger together or on their own as doom looms near.

Other content coming to Angel.com and the Angel app are SEVEN DAYS IN UTOPIA, THE REDEMPTION OF HENRY MYERS, TO END ALL WARS, STANDING UP and future episode of TUTTLE TWINS and DRY BAR COMEDY.

Angel Studios just released SWEETWATER on Sep. 26. The movie tells the story of the first African American player to join the NBA and stars Carey Elwes and Everett Osborne. It’s available to stream on all of Angel’s platforms.
