Your Favorite Country Legend Is Getting a Biopic
By Movieguide® Contributor
Randy Travis has had quite the lifetime of success, hardship, and faith, and his story is now being made into a movie. The 65-year-old has a biopic currently in production to share about the country artist’s life.
After decades in the country music industry, Randy Travis currently struggles to sing or speak due to a stroke he suffered in 2013. By the grace of God, he has defied all odds and “regained much of his health.”
In a discussion with PEOPLE, Travis’s wife Mary Travis said of her husband, “This is what we prayed for — for somebody who would tell Randy’s life story just as he lived it. He had bumps and bruises and rough spots, but Randy never, ever ran from those, and he never denied them. He accepted them. He learned from them. He moved on, and he used them as an inspiration for others.”

Walker said, “I’m so glad that this story is going to get told because it deserves to get told… [viewers] “are going to find out the deep struggles that he had. I look at Randy’s life, and I see redemption. This is a man who’s overcome all those challenges. He’s survived it all. Everybody knows that golden voice of his, but I think this movie is going to endear him to people in a whole new way.”
The film will be directed by Andrew Hyatt who was nominated for a Movieguide award for his movie PAUL, THE APOSTLE OF CHRIST.
Despite his challenges, Travis has miraculously been able to record music again with the help of AI. Movieguide previously reported, “In 2013, Travis thought he’d never sing again. Now, he’s grateful that there’s a way he can still share his voice. He said in a recent statement, ‘…by God’s grace and the support of family, friends, fellow artists and fans, I’m able to create the music I so dearly love. Working with [longtime producer] Kyle Lehning and Warner Music Nashville again has been so special and nostalgic, and I’m so excited to share my new song ‘Where That Came From’ with you today. Many thanks to my wonderful team and the best fans in the world for putting me back in the saddle again! I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.’”
For the movie, Walker will not sing, but Travis will be honored with past recordings of his actual performances. “This really is about that voice of his,” Walker said. “Nobody can come even close to getting that right. I can sing pretty good, but I’m no Randy Travis, that’s for sure.”
