THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - 6/1/2022

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is a darker, more mature action-packed reboot of the SPIDER-MAN franchise where Peter Parker finds his spider powers and must save his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, from the evil Lizard Man. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is a very exciting, though more serious, incarnation of the popular web-slinging hero, but still contains a strong moral worldview, with a caution for children.

WE ARE MARSHALL - 6/1/2022

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
WE ARE MARSHALL is an inspiring movie about dealing with the grief of an actual plane crash that killed most of the Marshall University football team and coaching staff in 1970. MOVIEGUIDE® heartily recommends WE ARE MARSHALL, with the caution that there is too much brief foul language and an instance of players drinking beer.

Amazon Prime - 6/1/2022

I AM DAVID - 6/1/2022

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
I AM DAVID follows the riveting journey of a 12-year-old boy who escapes from a Communist death camp in 1952 Bulgaria. I AM DAVID is a heartwarming story that challenges us to see goodness in people and even in a few unexpected places.

NACHO LIBRE - 6/1/2022

Quality:
***
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
NACHO LIBRE stars Jack Black as Ignacio, an orphaned boy in a Mexican monastery who dreams of glory in the wrestling ring but is convinced by the monks to become a monk. This is not a movie for everyone, though Jack Black is very funny at times. The movie flirts with sacrilege and an unrequited romance with a young nun, but it also contains strong Christian content and moral elements that appear to overcome the negative aspects.

AUGUST RUSH - 6/1/2022

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
AUGUST RUSH is an inspiring movie about a gifted boy who believes he can find his parents through music. The movie is redemptive, glorifies God as the giver of great talent and presents a pastor as one of the heroes, but it does open with a child being born to an unwed couple.

SPACE JAM - 6/1/2022

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
SPACE JAM is a mix of live action and animation featuring the Looney Tune characters and basketball great Michael Jordan. When Bugs Bunny challenges a group of little aliens who have come to make slaves of the toons to a basketball game, only Michael Jordan can help the toons get out of a jam. Fast-paced, well-executed and moral, it has prayers and a church scene, but is marred by an all-too-believable seance scene.

THE AGE OF INNOCENCE - 6/1/2022

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
THE AGE OF INNOCENCE, set in 1870's New York society, is about an aristocrat who has to choose between two very different women. Taken from Edith Wharton's novel, the film upholds tradition and conservative values and is a beautifully crafted visual delight which will abundantly reward the patient, discerning viewer.

STARGATE - 6/1/2022

Quality:
***
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
James Spader and Kurt Russell team up as a nerdy Egyptologist and a hawkish military colonel in STARGATE, a big-budget science fiction adventure that revolves around the quest to find the origin of modern civilization on Earth. Proposing that mankind originated on another planet, STARGATE is a far-fetched B-movie dressed up in a Blockbuster suit, with more than obvious parallels to Scientology.
