More Detail:

In the third episode of LES MISERABLES, Jean Valjean’s past catches up with him, and he learns that an innocent man is about to pay for his crimes. Rather than taking the opportunity to be free of his past forever at the expense of another, Jean Valjean turns himself in to Javert. Before Valjean is sent back to prison, he promises Fantine he will honor his word and care for her child. Overcome with illness and sorrow, Fantine dies. Jean Valjean escapes prison and finds an abused Cosette living with the innkeepers. He pays them off and rescues her, taking her to Paris. Javert learns of Valjean’s escape from prison and begins tracking him down, but before he can be apprehended, he and Cosette take refuge in a convent where they are offered a life of peace and safety.

Fighting injustice is the central theme of this episode of LES MISERABLES. Jean Valjean’s internal struggle over turning himself in to save an innocent man grips the viewer. His honest confession makes Javert’s single-minded determination to see Valjean recaptured appear vindictive rather than just. Due to the mature nature of the abuse demonstrated in this episode, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.
