More Detail:
In the fifth episode of LES MISERABLES, political unrest in Paris continues to gain momentum and a clandestine relationship blossoms between Marius and Cosette. When the last of the war heroes to fight alongside Napoleon dies, his funeral unleashes the escalating revolutionary tensions and the people begin to riot. Barricades are erected throughout Paris, manned by radicals trying to force political reform. Javert goes undercover, hoping to catch Valjean as one of the revolutionaries, but he’s caught. Desperate to protect Cosette, Valjean makes plans to evacuate Paris, but before they can leave, he uncovers Cosette’s relationship with Marius. Realizing his daughter’s in love, Valjean sets out to rescue Marius, risking his own life to join the fight behind the barricade.
The mounting tension of the first four episodes of LES MISERABLES spills over into action in this episode as the violence hinted at in previous episodes manifests itself in earnest as countless victims of sword, bayonet and gunshot wounds litter the streets. Character development suffers in the melee as the methodical nature of Valjean and Javert suddenly gives way to recklessness and rash decision making. Due to the amount of violence portrayed, this episode is not advised for children.
