What You Need To Know:
MAN AND WITCH is mildly funny, but the movie’s positives stop there. The movie tries to subvert the classic tale of the farm boy marrying the princess. However, it does so in an unsatisfying, grossly immoral, unbiblical way. The movie’s climactic ending is politically correct and includes a lesbian kiss. Also, Sean Astin, Christopher Lloyd and Michael Emerson have very little screen time. Even with more screen time, however, they could not have saved this trainwreck. Media-wise movie fans will want to skip MAN AND WITCH.

More Detail:
MAN AND WITCH: THE DANCE OF A THOUSAND STEPS is a new fantasy movie starring several acclaimed character actors such as Sean Astin, Christopher Lloyd and Michael Emerson. It follows the life of a goatherd, who learns that he was cursed at birth to never be able to have a wife. Despite his efforts, and his mother’s nagging, his efforts at love and chivalry are always met with spectacular failure.
Once he learns of his curse, the goatherd sets out on a hero’s journey to find a witch who can help break the curse. The witch promises him she can break the curse and find the goatherd a wife, so long as he completes three impossible challenges.
To her surprise, the goatherd completes the first challenge. The witch, realizing that she may be trying to double-cross the wrong person, uses the goatherd to achieve her own goals.
Will he be able to break the curse and find love? Or will the witch’s schemes succeed?
MAN AND WITCH is akin to MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, minus the gore, in its aim for a comedic take on the classic story of farm boys, kings, queens, knights, and monsters. It tries to subvert the genre in both its comedy and overall plot but fails miserably due to a flawed ending with a wicked worldview.
The biggest victim to the movie’s failed attempts to subvert the genre is the theme of love. Only the goatherd has pure intentions for love. However, the movie’s ending pushes him aside. It then inserts a non-Christian, immoral, politically correct vision of love that promotes homosexuality and includes a lesbian kiss.
Aside from its worldview problems, the movie’s production values are abysmal, with incomplete-looking visual effects, poor pacing and odd camera work. Despite its standout cast, Sean Astin, Christian Lloyd and Michael Emerson only have a few scenes.
There’s a reason the quest for love in a medieval setting is a common theme in movies. It’s because people respond favorably to biblical ideas of love and themes of chivalry. Such ideas and themes are morally uplifting and ultimately transcendent.
Sadly, MAN AND WITCH’s subversion of the genre leaves viewers with a lukewarm portrayal of valor and an immoral portrayal of love. The ending is unsatisfying, disappointing and, ultimately, annoying. Media-wise movie fans will want to skip MAN AND WITCH. Don’t be fooled by the movie’s posters and ads. The movie’s woke ending destroys any positive vibe they appear to be sending.
