More Detail:
AMERICAN MADE MOVIE has been released in several theaters and has been a hit on the Internet, which is surprising because it’s such a positive view of the blessings of the free market. Just the opening alone is worth watching.
The movie says that, from 1950 to 1990, or thereabouts, the United States of America led the world economy. In fact, it was 50 percent of the world economy and American products were known to be the best in the world. As a result, almost everyone prospered.
The movie shows Detroit during its heyday, when the car companies were surrounded by glass companies, tire companies, electronics companies, and everything needed to sustain the automobile industry. Then, the music stopped, and pictures of abandoned factories with deer and rats living there stood in incredible contrast to a few short years before.

As is the case with many documentaries, the movie is forced to be longer than it needs to be by the feature film aspirations of the filmmakers. Thus, there is repetition and filler that could be cut to produce and great one-hour documentary. Also, the plotting ignores some of the basic rules of filmmaking.
What the movie doesn’t do is show exactly why the almost 50 years between WWII and 1990 were so prosperous. Those who have studied the situation know it was the Christian worldview that stressed truth, justice, honesty, and all the other cardinal virtues that meant a man’s word was his bond and people put in a fair day of work to earn a fair living and no one expected society to take care of them because their trust was in God, not man. The breakdown of Christian culture brought increasing statist, socialism, unionism, and many other plagues that brought an end to the Golden Age.
Although AMERICAN MADE MOVIE doesn’t address the root causes, it does show the situation can be turned around by Christian revival and a pro-business attitude, and that’s exactly what has to happen or we’re going to go the way of Ozymandias, the old Babylonian king, whose statue now stands in a desert wasteland in the poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley.
