BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR

What You Need To Know:

BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR is an abhorrent French drama about a torrid lesbian affair between a young artist and a young teacher. The two women meet when Adéle is about to finish high school, and Emma has started college. As Adéle turns 17 or 18 (the movie isn’t quite clear), the two young women begin a torrid lesbian affair. Eventually, they move in together after Adéle leaves high school, but Adéle ruins the relationship by having an affair with a male teacher where she works.

BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR is just another godless, leftist propaganda movie mistaking lurid homosexual lust for love. Its pornographic sex scenes show that lust is the real focus of the movie. The fact that the lesbian artist only does nude female paintings seals the deal. Finally, MOVIEGUIDE® can’t really take this movie seriously, because the sex scenes are not just pornographic, but become silly and boring as well. The filmmakers behind BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR should have focused instead only on the teacher’s career. Those scenes are totally clean, and a lot more interesting.

Content:

(PaPaPa, HoHoHo, RoRoRo, LL, VV, SSS, NNN, A, D, MM) Very strong pagan worldview promoting lesbian homosexual lust, with very strong Romantic content confusing lust with passion and romance plus having a Romantic view of artists and teachers, and one character in the lesbian affair seems bisexual; about 33 obscenities (including about 10 “f” words) and one light profanity; some violent hitting on the rear end during extensive sex scene for no apparent discernible reason; very strong sexual content includes lengthy nude lesbian sex scene depicted with some gross activity, implied lesbian sex, women kissing with and without passion, scene in lesbian bar with women dancing together closely and kissing, woman cheats on her lesbian lover with a man, and depicted fornication between bisexual teenage girl and her brief boyfriend; much upper and rear female nudity (mostly in a lesbian context except for one heterosexual scene), some genital female nudity; alcohol use; smoking; and, lying, deceit, cohabitation, minor lesbian character conceives a child out of wedlock.

More Detail:

BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR is an abhorrent French drama about a torrid lesbian affair between a young artist and a young teacher. The sex scenes in this perverted movie are pornographic (not to mention silly), the teacher cheats on her lesbian lover with a man, and the lesbian artist only paints nude women. The filmmakers should have focused instead on the teacher’s classes with children. Those scenes are totally clean, and a lot more interesting.

The story opens on a teenage student named Adéle. Adéle is just your average aimless teenager. Though she’s in a relationship with a boy, one day she’s smitten with a young college art student named Emma, who has dyed hair blue. Adéle seeks out Emma, and the two become friends. As Adéle turns 17 or 18 (the movie isn’t quite clear), the two young women begin a torrid lesbian affair. Eventually, they move in together after Adéle leaves high school, but Adéle ruins the relationship by having an affair with a male teacher where she works.

Finally, MOVIEGUIDE® can’t really take this movie seriously, because the sex scenes are not just pornographic, but silly as well. Another scene, where Adele just starts crying uncontrollably because Emma won’t take her back, is also quite silly.

As noted above, some scenes showing Adéle teaching groups of younger children are a lot more interesting. If the filmmakers had focused instead on the career of a young teacher in France, they could have made a really valuable, insightful movie that more people would like to see. However, the director says in the movie’s production notes that the main point of those scenes is to show that the lesbian teacher doesn’t let her sadness, despair and loneliness about her failed lesbian relationship affect her work. If that was his intention, it doesn’t come across very well.

By the way, BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR is nearly three hours long. Perhaps never before in cinema history have filmmakers done so little with so much. . .
