What You Need To Know:
(H, L, SS, M) Politically correct feminism complete with: 3 obscenities & 4 exclamatory profanities; fornication and bedroom scenes, teenager awkwardly applies condoms (no nudity), & crude references to genitals; and, participating in pro-choice abortion march (brief), youth wears T-shirt that says "Censorship: It's unamerican," & woman dies in lingerie dressing room (implied).
THIS IS MY LIFE depicts a stand-up comedian, Dottie Ingels, whose success alienates her daughters. Dottie and her daughters, Opal (10) and Erica (16), live in a small Manhattan apartment. While touring the comedy clubs, Dottie becomes famous for her THIS IS MY LIFE material, which pokes fun at her family. This causes Erica (an avid reader with unwashed hair, horn-rimmed glasses and a confused outlook on life) to be resentful. When Dottie travels to Los Angeles to do more clubs, Erica fornicates with Jordan, who struggles to put on a condom. After intercourse, Jordan’s Mom whips out a model of female reproductive organs and explains how women become pregnant. Meanwhile, Dottie fornicates with her agent, Arnold Moss. Mr. Moss doesn’t say more than three or four lines throughout the film, adding to the ineffectual role of men in THIS IS MY LIFE.
Adding to continual man-bashing is a suppressed cry for help. The characters may not admit it, but they desperately need guidance, direction and discipline in their lives. Even so, the players continue to view life through rose-colored, politically correct glasses, especially Dottie, who achieves stardom within a few days.
