Recent rumors surfaced that CALL THE MIDWIFE will be canceled after it airs Season 15, but the show’s bosses are saying it’s all malarky.

“In case you’ve heard any reports to the contrary this morning…The BBC would like to reassure fans that CALL THE MIDWIFE will remain at the heart of the BBC for years to come,” the BBC Press Office X account wrote on June 26.

“As previously announced, there are two Christmas specials, a new series, a film and prequel series, before a sixteenth series in due course. CALL THE MIDWIFE isn’t going anywhere!” it clarified.

It would be somewhat bizarre if the series was suddenly canceled, as show creators announced a whole slew of new CALL THE MIDWIFE projects just two months ago with a statement that they’re not slowing down anytime soon.

There will be a two-part Christmas special set in Hong Kong and London’s Poplar district coming out late this year. Season 15 will release next year in January in the UK and likely in March for the US, TV Insider reported. A prequel series will start filming next year, as well as a CALL THE MIDWIFE movie. The movie will be set overseas in 1972.

Heidi Thomas, the series’ creator and writer, said in a statement, “The opening of new doors at Nonnatus House feels profoundly emotional, and yet just right. I have never run out of stories for our midwives, and I never will.”

“But having wept, laughed, and raged my way from 1957 to 1971, I found myself yearning to delve into the deeper past,” she said of the prequel. “The Blitz years in the East End were extraordinary — filled with loss, togetherness, courage and joy. The bombs fell, the babies kept on coming, and the Sisters kept on going. There will be so much in the prequel for our wonderful, loyal fans, including the appearance of some familiar (if much younger!) faces.”

CALL THE MIDWIFE Season 15 began filming on May 2.

“The mood is FANTASTIC on set, however, as our team are about to film an INCREDIBLE new Christmas story!” the show’s Instagram account said. “There is just so much to tell about this year’s festive drama…but all we can say right now is that there are distant troubles, wild celebrations, new beginnings, sad reunions…and a few sore heads!”

Pink Un recently confirmed that young star Teddy Berriman will return as Andrew Trottwood in the new series. Andrew joined CALL THE MIDWIFE in episode 4 of Season 14. The episode highlighted his mother’s struggles to care for him and the support the community gave them.

Given the creator’s statements and The BBC’s, it’s safe to say that CALL THE MIDWIFE fans don’t need to fret. The franchise will stick around for a while.
