Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
RISEN is about a Roman soldier and non-believer, who hunts for Jesus Christ’s body, not realizing that Jesus has risen from the dead. RISEN is almost like the follow up movie to Mel Gibson’s THE PASSION, with some war violence and killing, but with a powerful Christian, biblical worldview promoting the reality of Jesus Christ’s physical resurrection.

THE PRINCE OF EGYPT

Quality:
****
Content:
+4 Biblical, usually Christian, worldview, with no questionable elements whatsoever.
Magnificent entertainment, THE PRINCE OF EGYPT takes animated movies to a new level as it dramatizes the biblical story of Moses and his call from God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. THE CHOSEN SEASON 3 FINALE has some of the most spectacular, powerful and dramatic scenes of the whole series, with many inspiring insights by Jesus taken directly from Scripture.

JONAH – A VEGGIETALES MOVIE tells the time-honored Bible story of Jonah and the Whale in a fun, silly, delightful, and entertaining story starring Bob the Tomato, Archibald Asparagus and the Pirates Who Do Nothing. Clearly plotted turning points, wonderful songs and terrific animation all build to tell this meaningful tale of mercy and compassion.

BEN-HUR (2016)

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
BEN-HUR is a remake of the beloved 1959 classic starring Charlton Heston, featuring Jack Huston as the Jewish prince who runs afoul of his Roman friend, gets sentenced to a slave ship and must forsake his lust for revenge while meeting Jesus Christ and his disciples, who preach forgiveness. BEN-HUR is very exciting, especially the sea battle and the chariot race, but turns the message of the good news of salvation into a lesson about forgiveness.

TESTAMENT: THE STORY OF MOSES

Quality:
***
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
TESTAMENT: THE STORY OF MOSES is a three-part documentary series on Netflix which tells the story of Moses and the Exodus in dramatic re-enactments, with commentaries by Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders, scholars and experts. The dramatic re-enactments in TESTAMENT: THE STORY OF MOSES are excellent and captivating, but the commentaries slow down the miniseries and contain some extra-biblical perspectives, including some feminism, determinism and slight accusations about God as a destroyer rather than a redeemer.

HIS ONLY SON

Quality:
***
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
HIS ONLY SON is a dramatic retelling of the Bible story from Genesis 22, about God’s commandment to Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, as a burnt offering on Mount Moriah, with some scenes showing what Abraham and his wife, Sarah, went through earlier. HIS ONLY SON is a biblically accurate historical drama that points to the connections Abraham’s story has to the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Jewish Messiah who is a Divine Light for Gentiles as well as for Jews. Regrettably, it has , but so-so production values.

JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM

JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM is a heartfelt musical about the Nativity Story and the Birth of Jesus Christ, with scenes of King Herod the Great, played by Antonio Banderas, who orders his son, Antipater, to find the Christ child and kill him. Though some people avoid musicals, JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM is really a terrific, entertaining one that treats the Birth of Jesus with the theological seriousness it deserves but also includes some funny comic relief, good songs, plenty of jeopardy, and wonderful acting.
