LIGHTING THE WAY:

The Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays

Bring Light to Audiences as Winnings Scripts Head Into Production

Dr. Ted Baehr, founder of MOVIEGUIDE®:  The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment, announced today that the Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays winner UNDER THE APPLE TREE, written by Matthew Hill and Landon Johnson, will be heading into production this fall, making it the third script to be produced this year.

By all accounts, the Kairos Prize, which seeks to champion first-time and beginning screenwriters of faith filled scripts, is having a banner year. Supported by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation and presented annually by MOVIEGUIDE®, the Kairos Prize has already witnessed two winning scripts head into post production and now a third is set to begin lensing this fall.

“We are incredibly thrilled for the future of the competition and these talented writers,” Dr. Baehr said. “And we are honored to have the tremendous support from the Hollywood community that have recognized the impact that these scripts can have.”

Now in its 8th year, the Kairos Prize awards $50,000 to the top three entries, making it the largest screenwriting competition of its kind. Since its inception in 2006, Kairos has celebrated the best new screenplays across the globe that “greatly increases man’s love or understanding of God.” In addition to the significant prize money, winning scripts are read by top execs in the industry leading to numerous script options, development deals and production. The script to production ratio from the Kairos Prize is now making it one of the most successful competitions in the nation, be it faith-based or secular.

A SEASON OF MIRACLES, written by Rusty Whitener and originally titled TOUCHED and A MATTER OF TIME, written by Christina Denton, both wrapped principal photography this last June and are currently in post production.

“There are three other scripts nearing production deals,” Dr. Baehr said. “We look forward to having the opportunity to announce these as they come to fruition.”

Submissions to the 8th Annual competition are currently open with a final deadline of November 2nd. Interested writers should visit the competition web site at www.kairosprize.com.

This season’s winners will be announced at the 21st Anniversary of the Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 in Hollywood.
