CHASERS

What You Need To Know:

Tom Berenger stars as Rock Reilly, a crusty, almost over-the-hill Navy SP officer assigned to transport Navy prisoners from point of arrest to the Naval stockade--chaser duty. Combine poor acting, absence of plot, highly offensive content, and an illogical, disjointed story-line and we have the new Warner Bros. release, CHASERS.

Content:

(H, LLL, V, SSS, NNN, A, M) Humanistic worldview where dishonesty & corruption are only wrong if caught; 82 obscenities, 12 profanities (5 exclamatory) & numerous vulgarities; brief violence--2 fistfights & minor car crashes; graphic sexual encounter; male & female nudity & female nudity in wall posters; alcohol use & abuse; female prisoner's crime justified because of family hardship; and, guards help prisoner escape (one feels sorry for her, the other has had sex with her).

More Detail:

CHASERS stars Tom Berenger as Rock Reilly, a crusty, almost over-the-hill Navy SP officer assigned to transport Navy prisoners from point of arrest to the Naval stockade–chaser duty. Rock and new partner Eddie, a smooth-talking, pretty-boy supply officer assigned to chaser duty on his last day before discharge, are ill-prepared for this assignment when the prisoner turns out to be a beautiful female sea-person arrested for going A.W.O.L. to attend her younger brother’s funeral.

CHASERS fails miserably at every turn and is neither dramatic, funny nor even the least bit interesting. The acting performances are weak and unrealistic. Erika Eleniak, in the prisoner role, is understandably attempting to expand her career after leaving BAYWATCH, but manages only to further her body-only image. But then, credible acting is not often expected from former Playboy Playmates. Tom Berenger’s portrayal of Rock Reilly is a forced effort, and William McNamara, as Eddie, is the type actor one would expect to appear in a remake of ANIMAL HOUSE or possibly BIKINI CARWASH V. Gary Busey and Dennis Hopper provide short relief in brief cameos, but their efforts add little to an otherwise meager film. Technical aspects of CHASERS are fine, but who cares when the story, the acting and the content are so sorely lacking.
