HAPPY TEARS

What You Need To Know:

HAPPY TEARS is the story of two sisters, Jayne and Laura, who return home to care for their elderly father Joe. They re-live childhood memories. As they do, their already dysfunctional family begins to fall apart. Their father has a live-in girlfriend who is a drug addict. Laura tries to hold the family together by protecting her younger sister from the truth that their father constantly cheated on their now deceased mother. In the end, the family tries to just accept that this is how life is.

HAPPY TEARS is devoid of hope. The story wears thin as similar scenes are played out over and over. Demi Moore, however, gives a gripping portrayal as the older sister, Laura. Laura is married to a bisexual man. Their father, now dealing with dementia, constantly cheated on his recently deceased wife. HAPPY TEARS contains foul language, very strong sexual content, some homosexual references, and much drug content. There is lots of ugliness to the movie’s dysfunctional family. Because of all this and the movie’s hopeless pagan worldview of surrender to a world without God, media-wise viewers probably would consider HAPPY TEARS to be abhorrent.

Content:

(PaPaPa, B, C, HoHo, LLL, V, SSS, NN, DDD, MMM) Very strong, slightly mixed pagan worldview of immorality and selfish living mixed with one reference to mother of two sisters being in Heaven, plus homosexual content where a main female character is married to a bisexual man; 18 obscenities and eight profanities, plus adult daughters must bathe incontinent elderly father; nightmare fantasy of someone sucking another person’s blood, would-be painter uses his own blood to paint, and man in straightjacket bounces off walls of padded cell; very strong sexual content and references includes implied scene of sex among unmarried couple, woman pleasures herself, woman is married to a bisexual man whom she “thinks” doesn’t cheat on her, elderly father has a live-in girlfriend, two sisters once worked as strippers, woman talks to her sex organs, and references to an elderly father having always been unfaithful to his deceased wife; upper and rear male nudity; no alcohol use; much smoking of cigarettes and marijuana, and side character is addicted to crack; and, very strong miscellaneous problems and/or immorality include dysfunctional family has an ugly life, selfishness, check forgery, greed, hopelessness, and woman has psychedelic fantasies which viewer “experiences” but which don’t seem drug induced.
