Luke Smallbone shared how creating a documentary about the start of for KING + COUNTRY revealed just how much God moved at the start of his career.

“I think the biggest thing that was interesting looking back on it was how rough it was to start off. There’s nothing like being able to go back and look at it in kind of a story and seeing some visuals and being like, ‘I remember that moment and that sucked,’ You know what I mean. You don’t know when you’re in the depths of despair,” Smallbone told Movieguide®.

“At the end of the day, that period of sickness was what inspired the next two, three, four albums at some level. And not because of just sickness, ‘cause obviously all those songs aren’t just about sickness. It’s a viewpoint…” Smallbone continued. “And I think even when I look back on the miserable times of making music, but that’s what that time was. And there’s something about seeing it all put together that you see through lines of, ‘Oh, there actually was purpose… there was purpose behind the misery.’”

After the success of UNSUNG HERO, which revealed the crazy life the Smallbone brothers lived as children, they are now sharing the beginning of for KING + COUNTRY through their new documentary FOR KING + COUNTRY: NO TURNING BACK.

“The powerful true story of Joel and Luke Smallbone, the Australian music duo and four-time Grammy Award winners. In this intimate documentary, the Smallbones pull back the curtain on their extraordinary journey from Australia to America, through nearly a decade of failed starts, industry rejections, personal health struggles and navigating the ever-changing world of music,” a description of the documentary reads.

The brothers hope that this documentary will inspire their fans and give them hope regardless of their circumstances because of the understanding that God uses all things for good. This goal was certainly achieved with their first movie; a portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

UNSUNG HERO is a powerful, compelling story of faith and family, told with lots of sincerity and heart. The acting and writing is very good and convincing. UNSUNG HERO has a strong Christian, biblical worldview. The family’s Christian faith is not only clear from their repeated prayers to Jesus to guide and provide for them, but also from their infectious enthusiasm and spiritually uplifting song lyrics.

It is amazing how the Smallbone brothers are taking their past and using it to inspire others who may be going through hard times. While they are now successful, their success was never guaranteed and their story proves that the platform they now have only came about through the Lord. NO TURNING BACK is now available to stream through the Wonder Project on Prime Video.
