At 70 years old Kesley Grammer recently welcomed his eighth child. With over years of parenting experience, he shared the most important thing the wishes he knew when his journey as a dad was just starting.

“Maybe be a little more patient,” Grammer told Fox News Digital when asked what he could have done differently when he was a young father. “I didn’t quite understand my first child how a kid could cry all day.”

“I thought, ‘Wow, this is really challenging.’ And I thought, ‘How am I gonna get through this?’ But I did, you know, and she did. And we were really close when she was a little girl,” he continued. “You know, I don’t even really see her that much anymore.”

In May, Grammar also shared that he wishes he had spent more time with his older kids when they were young, rather than focusing on his career over his family.

“I have neglected a couple of kids in my life, especially the first two,” he admitted in an interview with People. “I’m trying to make up for a little of it now. I’m still their dad, so you can always have [a] chance to show up.”

“I probably should have been a little more clear and maybe less tolerant with the older ones,” Grammar continued. “I’m pretty tolerant with the young ones, but I’m clear about how there’s certain expectations and certain ways to navigate through a social situation: keep it close to the vest and play it straight, and you’re going to be well-served in your life. I’m a little more specific with them about doing their studies and being prepared. [I tell them], ‘What’s your job in life? Showing up.’”

Some of this change in heart and focus on his family over his career has come as Grammer has begun to take his faith more seriously and rely on Biblical teachings.

“I’ve had hiccups. I’ve had some tragic times. I have wrestled with those and worked my way through them,” he told USA Today in 2023. “Sometimes rejecting faith, sometimes rejecting God even, in a period of being pretty angry about it. Like, ‘Where were you?’ That kind of thing. But I have come to terms with it and have found great peace in my faith and in Jesus.”

‘It’s not cavalier – Jesus made a difference in my life. That’s not anything I’ll apologise for,” he added.

Congratulations to Grammer from his sixth child. May his many years of being a father serve him well as he takes the lessons he has learned and applies them to this next step in his life as a parent.
