by Moriah Dee, Contributing Writer

On June 22nd, this year’s group of honorees for the Hollywood Walk of Fame were announced. The list included people like Bradley Cooper, Steve Carell, Bruno Mars, Adam Levine and many more. Among the list were two names that are very exciting to see recognized for their talent. Being recognized in the category of recording is gospel singer Shirley Caesar.

Shirley Caesar, dubbed the Queen of Gospel, is an award winning gospel singer and also a Pastor. With 11 Grammy awards, 18 Dove awards, 14 Stellar awards, Shirley Caesar still finds the time to pastor her church Mt. Calvary Word of Faith Church in Raleigh, NC. Along with being honored with a star on the Walk of Fame, 2016 will also make Caesar’s 50th year as a solo artist. In the past 50 years, she has released 40 full length albums and is set to release another album next year. She truly deserves to be recognized for her commitment to music.

Along with Shirley Caesar, Roma Downey will also be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Downey is being recognized in the category of television. Downey, who played Mary in the recent mini-series THE BIBLE, has been acting since the late 80’s. She has been nominated for 2 Golden Globes and 3 Primetime Emmy awards so far in her career. She is most known for her roles in the mini-series THE BIBLE and her earlier role in the television series TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL. Downey appeared in 200 episodes of TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL and reached an average audience of 20 million people a week with the show. Along with being an incredible actor, Downey also helped to produce THE BIBLE series along with the feature film SON OF GOD and the most recent addition to the series A.D. THE BIBLE CONTINUES.

Both of these woman have worked hard over their expansive careers and deserve the honor of receiving a star on the famous Walk of Fame. They will be joining legendary names on the Walk of Fame such as Meryl Streep, Elvis Presley and even Kermit the Frog. The ceremonies for the women to receive their stars have not yet been scheduled, but will be announced on the Walk of Fame website. The ceremonies are free to attend and are also live streamed on the Walk of Fame website.
