Netflix’s THE CROWN Extended for Sixth and Final Season

Netflix’s THE CROWN will get a sixth season after all.
The critically acclaimed drama, created by Peter Morgan, announced in January that the show would end with season five, stating that it’s the “perfect time and place to stop.”
However, this announcement of a sixth season goes back to Morgan’s original plan for the show to run for six seasons, following the royals into the 21st century.
Morgan said, “As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

Cindy Holland, vice president of original content at Netflix said, “The Crown keeps raising the bar with each new season. We can’t wait for audiences to see the upcoming fourth season, and we’re proud to support Peter’s vision and the phenomenal cast and crew for a sixth and final season.”
The last season of THE CROWN will lead into the early 2000s.
Only three seasons are available right now on Netflix. Season four is in post-production, and season five will bring some new casting changes.
Starting with season five, Imelda Staunton will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth and Lesley Manville will play her sister Princess Margaret, according to Variety.
Until then, fans of the show eagerly await the fourth season of the show, scheduled to hit Netflix sometime this fall.

Movieguide® previously reported that Tobias Menzies, who portrays Prince Philip, said season four starts to bring the kids “into the foreground.”
Charles and Diana’s relationship also starts to come into play.
THE CROWN: MOONDUST, a season 3 episode, was nominated at the 28th Annual Movieguide® Awards for the Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring TV Program of 2019, as well as the Faith and Freedom Award for TV.
