Disgusting New MESSIAH/COMPLEX Project Reimagines Jesus as a Muslim Woman

By Jessilyn Lancaster, Managing Editor

A disgusting new project based on Handel’s “Messiah” reimagines Jesus as a Muslim woman.

The stunt is part of MESSIAH/COMPLEX, a blasphemous filmed version of the reverent song meant for praise.

According to the New York Times,

A gay Chinese-Canadian tenor struts through the streets of Vancouver, joyously proclaiming that “ev’ry valley shall be exalted” as the camera focuses in on his six-inch-high stiletto heels.

A Tunisian-Canadian mezzo-soprano reimagines Jesus as a Muslim woman in a head scarf.

In Yukon, an Indigenous singer praises the remote snow-covered landscape in Southern Tutchone, the language of her ancestors.

“This is not your grandparents’ ‘Messiah,’” Spencer Britten, the tenor in heels, said in an interview. He and the other performers are part of “Messiah/Complex,” an iconoclastic new production of Handel’s classic oratorio, which draws on biblical texts to form a stylized narrative of suffering, hope and redemption.

There is absolutely nothing redemptive about showcasing sin without a call to repentance. There is no hope without understanding who Christ is and how He shed His blood for our salvation. Instead, MESSIAH/COMPLEX appears to present sin not as suffering, but as something to celebrate.

What’s more, it’s a direct attack on Christianity.

One of Canada’s national newspapers, The Globe and Mail, writes that the performance “might get a rise out of the ‘Hallelujah’ people.”

This abhorrent act in the name of inclusivity attacks the very heart of Christmas: God sent His only Son to be born of a virgin so that we could find eternal life in Him.

The New York Times says MESSIAH/COMPLEX frees the story from “history’s bonds,” that its “a polyglot, nonsectarian, gender-inclusive film from Canada remakes the Handel classic for today’s world.”

What they fail to understand is that Christianity is the most inclusive religion on the planet. Jesus came to the world for each and every one of us. He desires to have a relationship with us. He meets us where we are and calls us to Him. In return, He redeems us. He calls us out of sin and purifies us with His blood.

Christmas is a time to let the “Hallelujah” chorus resound from the mountaintops from those of us who recognize we are sinners in need of a Savior. We don’t need the progressive agenda to rewrite the greatest story on earth to satisfy their own flesh.
