Chip and Joanna Gaines Transform Girls Shelter into Warm, Inviting Home

By Movieguide® Staff

The FIXER UPPER family just got a little bit bigger. Chip and Joanna Gaines broke their standard remodel procedure and helped transform an emergency girls shelter in a place they can call home.

The shelter houses around 16 girls at a time, ages 5-21. After 90 days or less, the girls transition into long-term foster care programs.

The Gaines teamed with Barbara and Trasha, who oversee the 3,900-square-foot shelter, and Joanna’s sites Jenny, a shelter volunteer.

Barbara hopes that the down-home renovations will “give each girl a chance to succeed.”

In addition to creating a comfortable, inviting, warm home for the girls, the FIXER UPPER couple also added in a backyard garden.

“This is just wonderful,” Barbara said. “It just speaks home. It speaks warmth. It speaks caring. It speaks perseverance.”

“Now that it’s renovated, it’s gonna help me help the girls to understand that there can always be change, and it’s OK to be with us even though it’s not where they want to be,” Trasha added.

The first four episodes of the Magnolia Network preview and reboot of the classic HGTV show, FIXER UPPER, are streaming on Discovery+ as part of a Magnolia Network preview.
