Candace Owens Calls Out Recent MUPPET BABIES Episode About Gender Norms

By Movieguide® Staff

The MUPPETS spin-off children’s show for young audiences, MUPPET BABIES, depicted Gonzo as a transgender princess.

The episode in question is a spin on the Cinderella storyline. Miss Piggy and Summer Penguin recall a princess whom they met at the ball. The characters refer to the princess by the “they” pronoun. Miss Piggy also has a glass slipper which she hands to Gonzo.

Since Gonzo’s first appearance on the MUPPETS in 1976, the male character had a passion for stunts. However, the new MUPPET BABIES introduced a new version of Gonzo, who turned into “Gonzorella” after wearing the glass shoe.

When the group asks why Gonzo never told them his true identity, the character says he was afraid because they “expected [him] to look a certain way.”

Political commentator and author Candace Owens responded to the episode on Twitter.

“I can’t believe I’m tweeting this but.. they are pushing the trans agenda on children via muppet babies,” Candace Owens tweeted. “This is sick and PERVERTED. Everyone should be disturbed by predatory cartoons meant to usher children into gender dysphoria.”

“Bring back manly muppets, anyone?” she added.

The MUPPET BABIES is not the first show aimed at children to address sexual content through gay or transgender characters.

The reboot of the beloved children’s classic BLUE’S CLUES features a new song that celebrates the LGBT community.

In 2019, Nickelodeon announced the new program BLUE’S CLUES & YOU, and in 2021, the network added the new song, “ABC Song w/ Blue!”

Although the song has not premiered on television, it is on the show’s official YouTube channel and declares that “P is full of Pride.” The “P” has a rainbow design with a heart that represents the LGBT pride flag.

Moreover, Movieguide® also reported on a BLUE’S CLUES episode that featured Nina West:

The video takes place at a Pride parade and is emceed by an animated version of drag performer Nina West.

The animated West sings an adapted version of “The Ants Go Marching,” which highlights many LGBT themes in the video like families with two moms, two dads, and trans-identified members parents.

“Love is love is love you see, and everyone should love proudly,” West encourages during the sing-a-long. “Allies to the queer community can love their friends so proudly.”

“Our families, and especially our youth, are being corrupted and destroyed by the messages being sold in the mass media of entertainment. Even our churches have been unable to give their members, especially their youths, sufficient help in avoiding the negative impact of our entertainment culture. In fact, many churches are clueless about the extent of the problem in their congregations. Other churches have opted for an anything goes attitude. As a result, the children have suffered, and the parents agonize over to how to deal with the problem. They don’t want their children to abandon biblical morality and go off as teenagers or college students into the toxic lifestyles promoted in the media,” Movieguide® Founder and Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr writes in The Screen-Wise Family.

“As one friend noted when, after exploring media-wisdom with me, he came to faith in Jesus Christ, that ‘God gave me back my mind,'” Baehr continued. “God wants us to think clearly, and so He tells us in His word to develop discernment, get wisdom and acquire knowledge. These parenting articles will help you to do just that by giving you the media awareness and biblical discernment skills to overcome the powerful influences and artificial peer pressure of the mass media of entertainment.”
