SAFETY Producer Mark Ciardi Named President, Chief Content Officer Sports Content Studio

Producer Mark Ciardi, known for many Movieguide® Award-winning sports movies, is now president and chief content officer for sports studio game1.

His mandate is to aggressively expand both the scripted and unscripted division of game1, as well as focusing on the company’s growing list of athlete and team partnerships, podcasts, branded content, and the burgeoning NIL space.
Ciardi is no stranger to sports content and is the producer behind classics like THE ROOKIE and INVINCIBLE and upcoming movies like AMERICAN UNDERDOG.
“It is amazing to be able to join forces with Basil and Greg at game1,” the MCFARLAND USA producer said. “The company is uniquely positioned in all areas of sports content – I am incredibly excited to be a part of building something special.”
Ciardi is also known for SECRETARIAT, MIRACLE, and MILLION DOLLAR ARM.
“Mark is one of the best storytellers in sports across all platforms. It’s a huge coup to have him join forces with Greg and me,” Basil Iwanyk, Chairman of game1, said. “It allows us to scale game1 in an exponential fashion during the best time for sports content in history. He’s a great guy, a good friend, and I look forward to being his colleague.”

Ciardi has also attended the annual Movieguide® Awards Gala and earned an Emmy Award for several of ESPN’s 30-FOR-30 documentaries.
Movieguide® named Ciardi’s SAFETY as the Best Movie for Families of 2020.
“I do I have a lot of Teddy Bears on my mantle, and that puts an imprint of how these movies are received out there,” Ciardi says of his Movieguide® Awards. “I’m really proud of the films because they’re family films that I still get great compliments on today from people. A lot of them that I’ve made for Disney now sit on this Disney+ plus platform. It’s great, because Disney+ rebirth of being able to watch a movie at the touch of a button, and I love the movies that I’ve done there.”
