The Bonner Family On Music, Faith, and Their Recent Appearance on THE CHOSEN

In a recent interview with CBN News, the Christian music group the Bonner Family opened up about the influence music has had in all of ten of the band member’s lives, and their recent appearance on THE CHOSEN.

Before their careers in music, the Bonner parents, Harry and Debra, were Baptist missionaries. Their eight children point to the hymns of their childhood as what drew the family to music.

“I had been teaching voice, so I taught all my kids voice and they’ve always been at all of our shows,” Debra shared. “Me and Harry put shows on and put the kids in it.”

Music runs in the family, with their great aunts and uncles had a gospel singing group in Cincinnati, Ohio that helped “trail blaze the way for gospel music.”

The Bonner Family were recently featured in their second THE CHOSEN Christmas special, CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHOSEN: THE MESSENGERS. The Bonner Family performed “How Great Thou Art,” in the Christmas special which ended up breaking box office records.

Movieguide® previously reported:

CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHOSEN: THE MESSENGERS broke several box office records and became the highest-grossing Fathom Event in history in its opening on Dec 1.

However, the Christmas Special created by Dallas Jenkins that tells the story of Jesus’ birth through the eyes of Joseph and Mary continued to perform over the weekend.

According to Box Office Mojo, THE MESSENGERS earned $4.1 million between Dec 3 and Dec 5. The faith-focused and worship-filled holiday special outperformed horror movie RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY and blockbusters heading into their second month of release like DUNE and Marvel’s ETERNALS.

Harry said that it was a blessing to be a part of the show’s Christmas special, sharing: “It’s a bit of a reunion because we were privileged to be a part of that last year so it’s getting to feel like a tradition and when we start a tradition, it goes big time.”

According to the Movieguide® review:

CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHOSEN: THE MESSENGERS is a joyous, Gospel-focused celebration of advent and the true story of the birth of Jesus Christ. The filmmakers use song, Scripture and dramatic representations to stress the hope that Emmanuel, God With Us, brings to a weary, sinful world. This Christmas special will make viewers want to worship the greatness of God, rest in the mercy of Jesus, and look expectantly to the believer’s future peace with Him in heaven. The music and production in CHRISTMAS WITH THE CHOSEN are masterfully woven together to create a cohesive narrative that surely will stir many hearts this holiday season.
