Tom Brady Calls His Family His ‘Greatest Achievement’

Future NFL Hall of Famer and seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady announced his official retirement from professional football.

After 22 seasons in the NFL, Brady hung up his No. 12 jersey for the final time after losing to the Super Bowl-bound LA Rams on Jan. 23.

Although Brady is arguably the best quarterback to play in the history of the NFL, he said that his greatest achievement is his family.

“Our family is my greatest achievement. I always came off the field and home to the most loving and supportive wife who has done everything for our family to allow me to focus on my career. Her selflessness allowed me to reach new heights professionally, and I am beyond words what you mean to me and our family,” he said.

Brady and his wife Gisele Bündchen share daughter Vivian Lake, 9, and son Benjamin Rein, 12. Brady also is a father to son John “Jack” Edward, 14, with ex Bridget Moynahan.

Since his draft year in 2000, Brady played 20 years with the New England Patriots and led the team to six super bowls. Many fans thought that Brady would retire after the defending champions lost to the Tennessee Titans in the 2019-2020 playoffs.

However, Brady chose to stick around and join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2020-2021 season. In his first season with Tampa Bay, Brady led the team to their second Super Bowl win in franchise history.

This time around, Brady said he wants to “spend some time with my family and spend some time with my kids.”

“I think as I’ve gotten older, I think the best part is, is football is extremely important in my life. And it means a lot to me. And I care a lot about what we’re trying to accomplish as a team. And I care a lot about my teammates,” he said on the SiriusXM podcast ‘Let’s Go!’

“I’m gonna spend some time with them and give them what they need, ’cause they’ve really been giving me what I need the last six months to do what I love to do,” he added. “I said this a few years ago, it’s what relationships are all about. It’s not always what I want. It’s what we want as a family. And I’m gonna spend a lot of time with them and figure out in the future what’s next.”
