How Candace Cameron Bure Dealt With Bob Saget’s Raunchy Stand-Up

By Movieguide® Contributor

Although Candace Cameron Bure and Bob Saget were longtime co-stars on FULL HOUSE, many wondered what their relationship was like off-screen due to their different views.

Bure is an outspoken Christian who often picks family-friendly roles. Saget, who recently died at the age of 65, was known for his raunchy stand-up comedy.

However, Bure shared that they made the relationship work.

“You know, if people see Bob’s stand-up, it’s not family-friendly stand-up,” the actress told TODAY SHOW host Hoda Kotb. “So, that would always be a question, like, ‘How can you guys be friends?’ It’s like, well, I grew up with Bob, so I understand his sense of humor. I, too, have a sense of humor.

“But I can also separate that person that’s on the stage making jokes to get the laugh and the real heart behind a person and their love and their friendship and their kindness,” Bure continued.

Bure said that Saget respected her faith and boundaries regarding their different views.

“He would invite me to things all the time in the stand-up world, but then say, ‘You’re invited but don’t come. Don’t come because I know you, this will cross a line for you. You’re not gonna enjoy it. You’re not gonna laugh. So, I love you, you can come if you want to, but don’t come.’”

Bure posted a series of touching tributes following Saget’s death on Jan. 9, 2022.

“I love you sooooo much. I don’t want to say goodbye. 35 years wasn’t long enough,” the actress captioned photos of the pair hugging.

In a longer post, she wrote:

This hurts like nothing I’ve ever felt before. I love you, I love you, I love you. You knew that. I knew that. But I have to say it again. I want one more hug. I want one more text that says, “oh, btw, it’s me Bob” after a long rant. I want one more laugh. I want to roll my eyes at you one more time. I want you to tell me to watch something but then tell me maybe I shouldn’t because of my faith. You were always so protective of me, and cared about everything. And everybody. You were the best. You were… Bob. There will never be another like you.
