Phil Robertson’s New Book ‘Uncanceled’ Shines Light on How The Gospel Overcomes Cancel Culture

By Movieguide® Staff

Phil Robertson is no stranger to cancel culture. However, the former DUCK DYNASTY star said that the solution lies with Christ and His example of forgiveness.

The 75-year-old patriarch announced his new book, “Uncanceled: Finding Meaning and Peace in a Culture of Accusations, Shame, and Condemnation.”

While the world’s answer to past sins is to erase them from existence, Robertson notes that the Gospel provides a hopeful alternative.

“I wrote this book because the two greatest commandments in the Bible, according to Jesus, was to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love your neighbor,” he said in a recent interview with The Christian Post

“What’s happened is the so-called cancel culture—or digging up the past of individuals, finding out where they made a mistake, find out where they sinned—they pile on and try to get them fired and they do get them fired,” he added. “The problem with that type of thinking is that all of us have made mistakes and all of us have sinned.”

Robertson quoted Romans and other Bible verses that we cannot truly forgive or love others because of our sin.

“The goal of the book, simply put, is to try to get the human race to love God and love each other,” he said. “Everyone out there, until they come to Jesus has already been canceled. You come to Jesus, you’re uncancelled.”

“Therefore, if none of your past sins are counted against you by God, why would somebody want to come up and say, ‘but look what you did 10 years ago?'”

In 2013, Robertson got canceled after quoting 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.

According to Robertson, the reporter’s story hit national news within one hour of the interview.

“He didn’t know I had quoted a Bible verse, either. It would be at least two weeks before the media figured out where my words were from,” he said. “I spent several hours showing the young man around my land, all the while preaching the Gospel to him. I went to great lengths to share the message of Jesus and how all sin can be eradicated by simply putting our faith in Christ.

“He wanted to ‘cancel’ me, but I only wanted to introduce him to the One who could give him eternal life,” Robertson said. “I was fired for quoting that verse from the Bible. The price I paid for telling the truth about God’s will for humanity was a cool $10 million. But I would do it all again. Jesus paid with His life for telling the truth. The only thing it cost me was a few bucks.”

Despite cancel culture proponents’ best efforts, Robertson said that the Gospel is the only thing that will change someone’s convictions.

“Without the Spirit of God being given to you through your faith in the gospel, without that, what you end up doing is the same thing you always did,” he said. “There has to be a heart change when a person hears that God loved him so much.”

Robertson confessed that the hostile culture of unforgiveness has seeped into the American church. However, the solution is the same: the Gospel.

“[When] your past sins are removed, you know you’re going to be raised from the dead, that should be enough for us not to be so hostile in the church and out of it with each other. We should be forgiving and long-suffering,” he said.

“Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. We expect it. We embrace it, but we don’t hold it against them. We just pray for them and point them to Jesus,” he added. “He’s hanging there having been mauled, mocked, thorns jammed into his head… and his final words were, ‘Forgive them Father, they don’t know what they’re doing.’ What a Lord, what a savior.”
