More Detail:
The movie begins with Katie’s boss complimenting her on her hard work at the company. She’s ready to buy the Merry Mountain Inn. Maggie, the receptionist, applauds her for her job performance and encourages the retreat Katie is going on for Christmas, which will be an important time for her to relax, alleviate her constant headaches, and detox from technology.
Meanwhile, Emmet arrives at the inn and sees his cousin, Brooke, decorating the front door. Brooke asks him how his date went, and Emmett says that the food was good, but he didn’t click with his date. Brooke wants him to find the right person and be happy. She asks about Katie. Emmett says she’s living it up in the big city. Brooke points out he used to love Katie, but Emmett dismisses Katie as ancient history.
At the inn, Emmett’s parents break the news to him they’re selling the inn. Emmett convinces them to at least check if the deal has been finalized and goes to the real estate office to plead his case. He realizes Katie works there. After catching up with her, he tries to convince her to discuss the selling of the property, but she turns him down.
Katie gets into a car accident in a blizzard and ends up in the care of Emmett’s parents at the Merry Mountain inn, with no recollection of who she is or how she ended up there.
HAVE WE MET THIS CHRISTMAS? is a delightful, surprising Christmas romantic comedy that has top-notch directing, writing, editing, and acting with a beautiful tale of gratitude, true love, the important things in life, trusting in and listening to the Lord, and forgiveness. It’s clear that the filmmakers took their time to make this a professional movie. The storyline is a little bit predictable. However, the movie includes a surprising element that viewers will enjoy.
Danica McKellar excels in her performance as the awkward, but well-meaning Katie. Jesse Hutch gives a charming performance as Emmett. His smile alone could light up any room. Riley Weston, who plays Emmett’s cousin Brooke and co-wrote the movie’s screenplay, shows up to change the family dynamic that usually includes just the main character’s mom and dad. As the mom and dad, Nancy La Scala and John Posey do tremendous work as Emmett’s wise and caring parents. The movie does leave a couple of unanswered questions, but it is a nitpick that ultimately doesn’t hurt the positive elements. Parents will breathe a sigh of relief that Great American Family has released a movie the whole family can enjoy without skipping parts.
