How Former Superman Dean Cain Supports Foster Families

By Movieguide® Contributor

Former Superman Dean Cain is campaigning for foster kids and families. His involvement began with his recently released movie CHOSEN, produced by JCFilms. In conjunction with the making of CHOSEN, JCFilms created the nonprofit Ohio Helping Hands “to follow the blueprints echoed in the film to help people find ways to support foster and adoptive families.”

Their mission closely follows the same which God has directed people do in several instances in the Bible.

Deuteronomy 14:29 says, “And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.” And perhaps a more pointed instruction is found in James 1:27 which says, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”

In June 2021, Movieguide® reported on the creative partnership between Cain and Kevin Sorbo to produce CHOSEN, “a multi-plot movie… [which] highlight[s] the beauty of adoption and foster parenting, but also shows challenges many adoptive and foster parents endure. It is a depiction on how communities and people of faith come together to help and support these many challenges.”

Executive Director of Ohio Helping Hands Stacey Stratton says of the project, “Knowing these children are also feeling scared, confused and alone, we wanted to create a non-profit to help support them emotionally as they transition into their new foster home.”

According to Richland Source, Cain will be handing out “Foster Family Fun Packs” which each contain “a sturdy luggage bag for children to store and transport their personal items. The packs are filled with games, crafts and other creative activities to help children break the ice with a new foster family, create a bond and have fun.”

Cain’s dedication to the sanctity of human life shines through his professional work both in front of and behind the camera.

In October 2021 Movieguide® reported Cain teamed up with Damascus Road Productions for a new faith-based movie, IN GOD’S TIME. The movie is based on Robert Fraley’s book, “Blessings of Obedience” and tells the true story of Bob and Barbara Fraley, who adopted six children following the tragic car accident of a family friend. They joined the Fraleys’ five children to make a family of 13.

Movieguide® also reported Cain teamed with JCFilms to produce NOT FOR SALE: AMERICA, a series of movies to raise awareness of the horrors of human trafficking.
