Disney+’s Upcoming NATIONAL TREASURE Series Adds Familiar Star From Original Movies

By Movieguide® Contributor

Disney+ recently announced that NATIONAL TREASURE star Justin Bartha would reprise his role as Riley Poole in the upcoming NATIONAL TREASURE streaming series.

Bartha previously appeared in both NATIONAL TREASURE and NATIONAL TREASURE: THE BOOK OF SECRETS. His character accompanied Nicholas Cage’s Benjamin Gates as the pair hunted for treasure and battled criminals.

According to a press release, the new show will follow “a young heroine, Jess, a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.”

Lisette Alexis also joins the cast as the character of Jess.

Movieguide® previously reported on the new series:

Disney recently announced a new original series based in the same universe as the popular NATIONAL TREASURE movies.

According to a Disney+ press release, the series is “centered on a young heroine, Jess (Lisette Alexis), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.”

The show features a familiar face, as well. Jess will go toe-to-toe with a billionaire treasure hunter, played by Academy Award-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.

“Billie, [is] a…billionaire, black-market antiquities expert, and treasure hunter who lives by her own code,” Disney shared. “She transformed herself from a penniless orphan to a shrewd, stylish businesswoman and adventurer. Billie’s used to getting what she wants—and she wants the Pan-American treasure. But not just for the money. This treasure has deeper stakes for her.”

The show will also feature Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, and Jake Austin Walker as Jess’ friends who help her treasure hunt.

Movieguide® has given favorable reviews to both NATIONAL TREASURE movies.

A portion of the review for NATIONAL TREASURE reads:

Rated PG, NATIONAL TREASURE uses at least a couple Masonic symbols to help locate the treasure, but it avoids the occult, ritualistic, Non-Christian ideas of the Masons. Instead, the movie concentrates on honoring early American history, the Founding Fathers, the Declaration of Independence, and ideals such as liberty, traditional family values, bravery, honor, patriotism, loyalty, and justice. All in all, NATIONAL TREASURE provides loads of family-friendly fun. The actors are great, the adventure is exciting, the mystery is intriguing, the suspense is taut, and the humor is full and almost entirely squeaky clean.
