Two Top Movie Studios Achieve New Success with Redemptive Action Flicks

In recent years, before COVID hit, two top movie studios, Sony and Paramount, have had a difficult time placing in the top ranks of market share among Hollywood’s six major studios.
However, so far this year, they’ve both achieved newfound success with two redemptive action hits, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 and UNCHARTED. The two movies, along with a few other successful titles, have catapulted the Sony and Paramount into the Number 2 and 3 spots in market share, behind Warner Bros. Discovery.
The success of movies like SONIC and UNCHARTED show once again that moviegoers prefer entertaining movies with positive morally uplifting, redemptive values.
For example, UNCHARTED has a strong Christian worldview. For instance, Tom Holland’s character has a strong respect for human life. Eventually, his pro-life attitude rubs off on Mark Wahlberg’s character, giving the movie a redemptive premise. UNCHARTED also has overt Christian references and symbols, including a very positive statement of Christian faith in one crucial scene. Sadly, though, it is marred by some foul language, which easily could have been cut.
More family-friendly, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 is also morally uplifting and redemptive. Sonic’s adoptive human father, Tom, takes a strong fatherly approach to helping Sonic, and this leads to several heartwarming moments. Also, at one point, Sonic performs an act of compassion that expresses the movie’s support for the value of life, which is opposed to the supervillain’s anti-human desire to dominate the world through machines.
Both these movies have a great old-fashioned spirit of adventure, humor and fun that echoes the kind of entertainment that Hollywood used to make in its Golden Age.
Sadly, these kinds of movies don’t win Oscars, but they definitely should!
