Sight & Sound Theatre to Bring DAVID Production to Your Home

By Movieguide® Contributor

Sight and Sound Theatre fans can experience their newest production DAVID live on September 2 via their company’s own streaming service.

“For nearly 50 years, people from all over the world have been coming to Sight & Sound to experience the Bible coming to life on stage,” said Katie Miller, Sight & Sound’s director of marketing & communications. “We are excited to once again bring the experience of live theater to audiences wherever they are in the world.”

Movieguide® previously reported on this new production earlier this year.

Sight and Sound Chief Story Officer Joshua Enck shared, “This brand new production has been four years in the making and we couldn’t be more excited to finally bring it to the stage. David was many different things: a shepherd, king, poet and a warrior. Through this new live-stage production, this powerful yet personal story will come to life like never before.”

“The incredible story of ‘DAVID,’ the shepherd boy who would eventually become the most famous king in Scripture, is a story full of unexpected adventure,” Producer Ryan Miller added. “The production explores all of the complexities of his life, and how through his triumphs and failures he persevered as a man after God’s heart.”

The performance portrays David as “master poet, fearless warrior, anointed king, from still waters to shadowed valleys,” chronicling David’s life, from his battle with Goliath to his ascent to the throne and beyond.

“After unprecedented victories lead to devastating failures, this passionate warrior will face the biggest battle of all: the one within himself,” the synopsis reads.

Miller’s inspiration for this production came from learning more about David himself. He noticed that David “definitely had a different way of relating to the Lord that I haven’t even really seen modeled and I know I don’t have.”

“Trying to discover what that was, and then trying to bake it into a show was the goal, while still keeping all the fun, action-adventure, and big spectacular moments that people are also expecting,” he explained.

The live broadcast is one night only on Friday, September 2. After that, audiences can view encore performances throughout Labor Day weekend on Sight and Sound’s streaming service, sight-sound.tv.
