Musician Follows God Through Worship Album, New Movie

By Movieguide® Contributor

Worship artist Meredith Mauldin is teaming up with the Upper Room ministry for a new collection of worship songs. She recently spoke about the inspiration behind the music, and why she felt called to write the songs. Additionally, her family was part of the Let Us Worship Movement, which is in inspiration behind the upcoming SUPERSPREADER documentary.

Mauldin and her husband initially moved to Los Angelas to work in the entertainment industry and spread the Gospel. However, her husband soon felt called to do mission work, and the couple headed to the Middle East.

“Through that, I just encountered the Lord saying, ‘Would you be willing to lay everything down and be a worshiper of me?’ It was just one of those things when the King of Kings asked you to do that, and you just see the magnitude of what that really means. Everything else just pales in comparison,” she explained

As she continued her missionary work, Mauldin shared that God revealed to her that she was to worship Him through her music.

“We’re doing all the things, but what’s missing?” she said, describing her opinion of the worship music industry. “And as we started to look into it and I started reading the words, I’m like, ‘Wow, we’re talking about ourselves. We’re talking about what we want from God, what we want to do for God or what we want from Him.

“There’s nothing wrong with that; there’s corporate prayers and there are all those things, and they’re beautiful, and the Lord knows we need them. He knows we need things. He’s not opposed to that,” she continued. “But I realized that when we would focus not on our needs and our lack, but we’d put that aside for a minute and start to focus on who He is, and what He’s done, the room just shifts. It’s like Heaven is attracted to the worship of Jesus.”

Mauldin shared some of her songwriting process on Instagram:

“So when we would start to honor Him for who He is, and what He’s done, all of a sudden, it’s just like the ceiling opened up and like you couldn’t help but worship Him,” Mauldin finished.

Mauldin teamed up with Upper Room to create the eight songs on The Turning.

“To me, to be able to give that kind of an emotion to the Lord is an offering,” she explained. “So I think it’s all the spirit behind it more than anything. It’s like, ‘Is my heart postured to give everything to the Lord?’ Then I think it’s an offering; it’s not emotionalism, but that’s my heart.”

“The Lord loves your song the most. So even if you’re not a songwriter, even if you’re not a worship leader, for you to sing the little things that the Lord has given you, sing your thanks to Him. It really does open the Heavens over your home,” Mauldin concluded.

While Mauldin has focused on music, her husband Michael has been working in the movie industry. His first producing project, SUPERSPREADER, chronicles fellow worship leader Sean Feucht as he led large worship events across the country while churches were forced to shutter their doors.

“Around 2018 we started getting more and more words about stepping out and laying things down,” Mauldin said. “After some time, the Lord started speaking to @smichaelmauldin about telling God stories (through film).”

“We had no idea how any of that was gonna happen, but we stepped out in faith and followed, not understanding what we were doing most of the time.🙃 3 1/2 years later and a crazy journey and winding adventure, Michael has produced his first documentary called ‘Superspreader’. It’s a fantastic God story and told with such excellence!!! I have seen more than 10 times and cry every time (maybe I’m biased, but I’m definitely not the only one with a box of tissues). This has been a totally faith journey and it’s miraculous on so many levels,” Mauldin continued.

“Which leads me to say, follow God! Follow Him when it doesn’t make sense. Follow Him when other people think you are crazy! Follow Him wherever He leads. He never promises easy, but it’s always worth it!!!” Mauldin concluded.

Mauldin has also led worship with Feucht during the rallies.

“It’s been almost exactly a year since we divinely jumped on the road with @let.us.worship,” Mauldin wrote in an Instagram post. “When I say divine, I mean it. From a friend “randomly” setting up a ministry for us (not really sure what we were gonna do with it at the time), our house not being ready in Atlanta and Sean calling and saying, “come roll with us”! So we packed up our car and hit the road to so many cities around the country. We didn’t know how we were gonna pay for all the travel but people spontaneously gave and always just at the right time! (Look at God).🙌 We saw lives changed, people encounter God, crazy opposition, and our family has been forever marked for Jesus! This weekend in Washington was incredible! (Can’t believe it’s been a year!!) What a wild ride!! Thank you @seanfeucht and @kfeucht for your boldness and obedience! It’s been a blast having our families run together!”

Mauldin’s The Turning will be available to stream on July 29. SUPERSPREADER will release in September. Check back to movieguide.org for more information about SUPERSPREADER.
