GUY RITCHIE’S THE COVENANT Star Dar Salim: ‘I Hope This is a Reminder to Everyone What America is Really About’

Guy Ritchie’s new film THE COVENANT explored the intense conditions the American soldier endured while in Afghanistan.

Fox and Friends interviewed actor Dar Salim who portrayed an Afghan translator for an American soldier.

Dar Salim stated that the movie was “very entertaining” and was just “one big action banger” from start to finish.

Salim also stated how the film portrayed a sense of unity for Americans.

“It has this emotional hook from the beginning to the end. It has a real message of unity and doing the right thing. It was a wonderful thing to be a part of,” Salim stated.

Salim played an Afghan translator who saved and American soldier’s life, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal. However, once the American soldier was back in the US, he realized that his translator was still in Afghanistan, which the soldier then felt an obligation to help his translator make it back to America.

The film is not based on a true story, but Salim stated that “at the heart of it, it is based on a lot of true stories.”

“The fact is that all American Soldiers did put their lives at stake every day, in Afghanistan, trying to do the right thing. And at the same time, all interpreters did put their lives on the line, every day. That is the truth of the film,” Salim added.

Fox and Friends in fact, had an Afghan interpreter on the show and Salim gave his thoughts, “I’m getting goosebumps just hearing that because in reality those relationships were so important, they were life and death relationships.”

Salim also spoke on America and what it is in his eyes, “As a non-American, I’m in Denmark now, I was a refugee. America is like this beacon of hope for the rest of the world and it’s always been that. Maybe you guys take it for granted because you live there but it’s always been a place you look up to because it takes leadership, and it shows us how to live in this world and make it a better place.

“I hope this movie is a reminder to everyone what America is really about,” Salim concluded.

Movieguide® recently reviewed THE COVENANT and stated, “GUY RITCHIE’S THE COVENANT is a realistic look into the war between the U.S. and Taliban in Afghanistan. It has a powerful message about moral duty, sacrifice, patriotism, and standing up for what’s right no matter the cost.”
