Singing Troops Honor Fallen Soldiers With Stunning AGT Audition
By Movieguide® Contributor
As members of the Army’s 82nd Airborne All-American Chorus made their entry onto the stage the crowd and judges were surprised. But once the group began to sing “My Girl” by The Temptations, everyone was stunned.
Although the group captured the entire room, that wasn’t the purpose of their audition.
FaithWire reported of the group, “We hail from North Carolina,” Staff Sgt. Marcus Gilbert expressed. “We represent the 19,000 men and women that support and serve the Airborne division.”
The ensemble was there to honor and dedicate their performance to one fellow soldier who didn’t make it back home.
“We wanted to dedicate this performance,” Gilbert said. “Last week, we lost one of our soldiers — Specialist Elijah Crawford. So, we’re dedicating this performance to him and all of the soldiers that have passed before him.”
“It’s not the first time an Armed forces group has been on the show, but it is the first time the 82nd, which is known to deploy anywhere in the world within 18 hours, has been on it,” Gilbert added.
As the 82nd Airborne All-American Chorus began to sing, the crowd went wild. At the end of their performance, the entire room and judges were all standing to their feet in utter amazement.
Gilbert said that soldiers across the entire division with different job specialties audition for the chorus. For those who make up the chorus, they are pulled from their unit for a period of two years of special duty before they return to their parent unit.
The audition is competitive as the first round of auditions are in front of a panel of judges where the second round of auditions is in front of the senior leaders.
The soldiers who stand next to Staff Sgt. Marcus Gilbert include: Staff Sgt. Mark Bendel, Staff Sgt. Tyler Christman, Sgt. Matthew Smith, Sgt. Dejon Strayhorn, Sgt. Damarielis Vargas, Cpl. Sean Lee, Spc. Alijah Gonzalez, Spc. Mone’t Bentley, Spc. Trinity Williams, Spc. Kevin Ortiz, Spc. Tyrek Lowery, Spc. Oscar Roldan, Spc. Ryan Bueche, and Spc. Corey Smith.
The performance can be seen in its entirety tonight on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT.
