Gal Gadot Says WONDER WOMAN 3 To Be Developed After Initially Scrapped
Movieguide® Contributor
Gal Gadot recently revealed in an interview with ComicBook.com that a third installment of WONDER WOMAN is in the works, refuting reports that the project had been canceled.
“Last December, news broke that…WONDER WOMAN 3 had fallen apart after Warner Bros. Leadership passed on [Patty] Jenkins’ treatment for the sequel,” Variety reported. “Jenkins publicly exited the project. The news hit shortly after [James] Gunn and [Peter] Safran took the reins of DC Studios and announced they would be overhauling the DC Universe.”
Despite reports claiming the movie fell through, Gadot confirmed that plans for the third WONDER WOMAN movie have moved forward.
“I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James (Gunn) and from Peter (Safran) is that we’re gonna develop a WONDER WOMAN 3 together,” Gadot said.
“WONDER WOMAN was nominated for Movieguide®’s 2018 Best Movie for Mature Audiences award, and WONDER WOMAN 1984 was nominated for the same award in 2021,” Movieguide® reported.
In a 2022 interview, Gadot speculated that filming for the third installment would begin summer 2023, but as of now, no news suggests it has.
ComicBook.com noted that this interview with Gadot occurred before the SAG strike, which could affect the production’s timeline.
Movieguide® previously reported on WONDER WOMAN:
The future of fan-favorite DC comic book adaptations remains uncertain after DC Studios canceled the WONDER WOMAN 1984 sequel as new studio chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran shift the strategy for upcoming DC movies.
Variety reports, “after [WONDER WOMAN 1984 director Patty] Jenkins submitted a treatment for a third WONDER WOMAN, she was informed by studio leadership that it did not mesh with Gunn and Safran’s emerging plans for the DC Universe, and the studio would not make the project.”
WONDER WOMAN was nominated for Movieguide®’s 2018 Best Movie for Mature Audiences award, and WONDER WOMAN 1984 was nominated for the same award in 2021.
Movieguide®’s reviews highlight both movies’ celebration of “sacrificial love” and “truth.”
