Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt Shares Power of Forgiveness: ‘Amazing Sense of Freedom’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt recently opened up about the power of forgiveness, which inspired her book “The Gift of Forgiveness.”

“It is a topic for everyone, and it’s a topic that every single person will come face-to-face with at some point in their lives,” she said while appearing on ERIC METAXAS ON TBN.

Pratt shared that she was “struggling” with forgiveness in her 20s and decided to write a book that might help others who find themselves in the same place.

“Forgiveness means something different to every single one of us,” she explained. “It’s really up to every single person how they choose to manage their forgiveness journey.”

Pratt also had some words of advice for those who are struggling to forgive someone in their life.

“When you’re able to practice forgiveness, you feel this amazing sense of freedom and weight lifted off your shoulders,” she said. “There are a lot of people who feel like practicing forgiveness feels like a betrayal of their own hurt…you have to think about it, practically speaking, what are you looking for? [Then] you are able to eventually shift to you being able to look at yourself and give that gift [of forgiveness] to yourself because it’s actually not about another person at all.”

She spoke further about the lessons she learned while writing “The Gift of Forgiveness” in an interview with Oprah Daily.

“I grew up with this understanding that forgiveness is something you give another person, like: ‘I forgive you for doing something wrong to me.’ By doing this book and getting a deeper understanding of forgiveness, I realize forgiveness is all about you,” Pratt explained. “It’s a gift you give yourself.”

She continued, “It’s about giving yourself the freedom of knowing you no longer are tied and shackled to these stories of your past. Acknowledging that they occurred, but also freeing yourself from the anger and resentment and inability to move on in your life.”

Her ultimate takeaway on forgiveness?

“For some people it comes very easily and naturally and they can just decide to forgive someone and be done with it,” she told the Associated Press. “And for a lot of people, myself included, it’s an ongoing process. So, it’s about being OK with it.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Pratt’s marriage to actor Chris Pratt:

Katherine Schwarzenegger declared that faith is a “huge” part of her marriage to movie star Chris Pratt.

“[Faith] is a huge part of our relationship and also just a huge part of our lives,” Schwarzenegger said on Fox and Friends.

Pratt, who’s an outspoken believer, recently opened up about how his wife makes him a better person. The pair were married in the summer of 2019.

Schwarzenegger included her faith in her first book, The Gift of Forgiveness.

Schwarzenegger said,  “I grew up with faith being a huge part of my family’s life as well. [Faith] is a huge part of the forgiveness process and healing process in life in general so if you are able to have [faith] to rely on and lean on it’s a great gift.”

The Gift of Forgiveness was Schwarzenegger’s pursuit of how forgiveness operates and how it might look different to individuals.
