Kevin Sorbo’s New Book Teaches Boys About Masculinity

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian actor and filmmaker Kevin Sorbo’s new children’s book combats gender ideology and celebrates masculinity.

The book, “The Test of Lionhood,” aims to teach young boys about masculinity.

“Follow along as Lucas’s sister, Chloe, gets poisoned by the night-scorch thorns,” publisher Brave Books’ synopsis reads. “It’s all up to Lucas to save the day. Many obstacles stand in his path, but when a legendary lion shows up, Lucas’s world changes.”

“Join Lucas as he learns what it means to be a real lion through lessons like bravery and perseverance. Then, complete the BRAVE Challenge at the end of the book,” the synopsis concludes.

Through the book, Sorbo hopes to remind children that the differences between men and women are good and important.

Movieguide® reported:

“This book is really to be read to children, boys and girls, young age, and say, look, there’s a difference between men and boys and girls,” Sorbo said. “There’s a difference between male and female. They both have their part in the world. They both have things they can do better than the other one.”

“All the craziness that’s going on with what we’re doing to kids now in public schools, you know, we have to let kids be kids and let them just grow up,” he shared with the Christian Post. “The danger is trying to make them the same. We’re not the same. It’s like these transgenders going in and racing against women in sports now, boxing matches. It’s just crazy to me.”

While Sorbo thinks adults can do whatever they want, whether or not he agrees, kids need protection from ideologies that threaten to damage their futures.

“You want to do that with yourself, fine. Be at a mature enough level to do it. Look at Bruce Jenner. He waited until he was 60 years old to become Caitlyn Jenner. I think at 60, you can pretty much figure out what you want to do,” he said.

“But to sit there and try to tell kids in third grade, at 6 years old, ‘Let’s change your sex.’ You know what, that’s just insane to me. Let them find their way when they become adults and are old enough to do it,” the actor continued.

Sorbo previously described how Hollywood’s emasculation of male characters in entertainment has affected men in real life.

Movieguide® reported:

“To me, it goes back to even sitcoms,” Sorbo explained. “You look at sitcoms over the last 30 years, the guy, the husband’s always kind of fat and dumpy, the mom’s kind of hot. And then they got the teenage kids, and all they do is belittle a father. It’s this whole attack on fathers – a whole attack on a man being a man.”

“In reality, America today needs warriors; protectors; responsible and committed fathers,” he shared. “We certainly don’t need another MCU-esque superhero. We need men who will raise their kids, defend their homes, provide for their families, and serve self-sacrificially – all of which is impossible if they are dissipated and addicted to pleasure.”

Movieguide® recently reported on Sorbo:

In a recent Fox News interview, Kevin Sorbo argued that the portrayal of men in media in recent decades has devalued their role in society and caused families to suffer.

“I look at a lot of things that have been coming out lately in the movies and television, where they constantly just make men kind of wimps,” Sorbo told Fox News Digital…

“But I think to sit there and take away the masculinity from men, the men that are supposed to be the providers, the hunters,” he continued. “And I’m not saying women shouldn’t be, because my wife certainly throws in more than her two cents. So to me, it’s like, my goodness. Why is there such an attack and such – to break the family unit, which they’ve been doing for a long time now.”

“We need men to start being men and realize that God never promised us an easy life. We have to find a way to get past all the hardships in life because we’re always going to have hardships,” he added. “You got to suck it up and take responsibility for yourself.”
