Kevin Sorbo Fights Hollywood’s ‘Attack On Masculinity’ in New Book

By Movieguide® Contributor

Kevin Sorbo celebrates masculinity in his latest book, “The Test of Lionhood.”

“For starters, I think this is long overdue—and I’m actually quite thrilled that I was asked to be part of this,” Sorbo explained to Fox News. “The attack today on masculinity today is a call for us to stay vigilant right now, given what Hollywood’s been doing to the movies and television.”

He continued, “I’m just hoping that people wake up a little bit and realize, Let’s let boys be boys and let girls be girls. And let’s stop this whole thing about chopping down the men in the world.”

Sorbo emphasized that everyone “has a place in this world” and that “The Test of Lionhood” is meant to show boys that “being brave, and being manly, is not a bad thing.”

“They’re going out there and protecting people — and they shouldn’t be afraid to confront things that are dangerous,” he said.

The HERCULES star spoke further about his efforts to promote masculinity and strong family values amid Hollywood’s “devastating” effects on both.

“To me, it goes back to even sitcoms,” Sorbo explained. “You look at sitcoms over the last 30 years, the guy, the husband’s always kind of fat and dumpy, the mom’s kind of hot. And then they got the teenage kids, and all they do is belittle a father. It’s this whole attack on fathers – a whole attack on a man being a man.”

He pointed out that “The Test of Lionhood” celebrates the differences between men and women.

“This book is really to be read to children, boys and girls, at a young age, and say, look, there’s a difference between men and boys and girls,” Sorbo said. “There’s a difference between male and female. They both have their part in the world. They both have things they can do better than the other one.”

Sorbo also pointed out that he makes it a point to choose projects that celebrate family values, faith, and patriotism — even if that comes at the expense of his career.

“My manager and agent for so many years said that we can’t get you jobs anymore, work with you because of you being a Christian, being a conservative,” he told Parade. “And I almost had to laugh at that because it’s an industry that screams for tolerance, and yet it’s a one-way street. It screams for freedom of speech. But Hollywood’s a one-way street as well. And that’s just too bad, you know.”

Actor, director, and producer Kevin Sorbo opened up about what it’s like to be an outspoken Christian in Hollywood.

“I’ve had a number of actors come up to me that I worked with and say, We appreciate your voice, and I go, ‘Why don’t you have a voice too? I mean, if you believe the same way I believe, what’s the problem?’” he explained.

“I’m going to keep fighting the good fight and doing the movies that I’m going to do,’ Sorbo continued. “I’m going to make movies that have love, hope, laughter, redemption, faith. I want movies that move people and make them think about things. I like wild movies too, but I like to do the movies that I want to do.”
