HGTV’s GOOD BONES Star Announces Plans for Spinoff Series: ‘Joyful’

By Movieguide® Contributor

HGTV’s series GOOD BONES may have come to an end after eight seasons, but star Mina Starsiak Hawk has plans to continue with a new series.

On her podcast, the HGTV star shared that her next show will feature her renovation of an Indiana lake house that she and her husband purchased.

“It’s this place that I can see in my mind that’s going to be for my family, but also for my extended family, to make these new, amazing memories,” she said. “I have so many friends that I hear tell great stories about growing up at their grandparents’ lake house and running around in the woods and building forts and just being kids, and I want that for my kids.”

The remodel will take place in two parts, beginning with the home’s main interior areas and finishing with the basement and backyard.

“What I know right now is [the] first phase we are filming for a two-episode spinoff, and it’s been really fun so far, because Steve’s involved a lot, the kids are there a lot, [Good Bones head designer] MJ [Coyle] and [construction coordinator] Austin [Aynes] are there for demo,” Starsiak Hawk explained.

“And it just kind of feels like getting back to when I started, and it was just really fun and everything was joyful,” she continued.

TV Insider added, “The design itself is ‘mid-century modern,’ which isn’t her style, but she added, ‘I’m trying to respect that while giving it my own spin.’”

PEOPLE reported that Starsiak Hawk never intended to be a TV star, but she has surprisingly enjoyed it.

“I love what I do. And I actually — weirdly enough, even though it was never a goal of mine — I love making TV. I love working with the people. I love doing something different every day, and something that’s challenging. And I have a great relationship with the network still, and moving forward will still do things with them,” she said.

HGTV previously stated that the network was in talks with Starsiak Hawk, but the release date for the spinoff has not yet been announced.

Movieguide® previously reported on GOOD BONES:

HGTV’s GOOD BONES is set to end this year with its eighth season.

“It’s the end of an era. I had to say goodbye to some people today that I have spent my last almost 10 years with,” star Mina Starsiak Hawk said while appearing on her podcast. “Something I’m super, super proud of, and really grateful to the network for is making a show for the last eight years that, for the huge majority of the time, has been super representative of who I am… and it was really important to me from the beginning to do that.”

Some fans might wonder why GOOD BONES is ending, and Hawk shed some light on the subject, citing stress as a major component of her decision.
