NASA Launches Streaming Service to Bring Space to Earth

NASA has revamped its website, making its resources more accessible than ever and adding a streaming platform, NASA+, that provides a no-cost, ad-free window into the agency’s work.
“We’re putting space in demand and at your fingertips with NASA’s new streaming platform,” said Marc Etkind, associate administrator, Office of Communications, NASA Headquarters. “Transforming our digital presence will help us better tell the stories of how NASA explores the unknown in air and space, inspires through discovery, and innovates for the benefit of humanity.”
NASA+ provides users access to a wide variety of programs, with highlighted topics including “Humans In Space,” “Aeronautics” and the “Solar System.” The platform also launched an original series, NASA EXPLORERS, which “follows the OSIRIS-Rex team as they face the many surprises and challenges of asteroid sample collection.”
The streaming service will be available on iOS and Android through the NASA app and will also be accessible through Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV and desktop streaming on the NASA website.
“From exoplanet research to better understanding Earth’s climate and the influence of the Sun on our planet along with exploration of the solar system, our new science and flagship websites, as well as forthcoming NASA+ videos, showcases our discovery programs in an interdisciplinary and crosscutting way, ultimately building stronger connections with our visitors and viewers,” said Nicky Fox, associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters.
The NASA+ service comes as NASA revamps its website to meet modern standards. With a new interface, users can better navigate the immense library of space and aeronautical content the agency has made available for free.
“Our vision is to inspire humanity through a unified, world-class NASA experience,” Jeff Seaton, chief information officer at the agency’s headquarters in Washington, said about the updated website. “NASA’s legacy footprint presents an opportunity to dramatically improve the user experience for the public we serve. Modernizing our main websites from a technology standpoint and streamlining how the public engages with our content online are critical first steps in making our agency’s information more accessible, discoverable, and secure.”

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope captured its first full-color images of the universe, which display the majesty of God and the beauty of his creation.
“[This is] why we want to study the heavens, so we can observe the awesome glory of our God,” Rob Webb, an aerospace engineer with Answers in Genesis and a former NASA employee, said in response to the stunning images released July 11 and 12.
