Disney+ Cancels THE MUPPETS MAYHEM After One Season

After only one season, Disney+ has canceled THE MUPPETS MAYHEM.

A description of the show reads, “After 45 years of rockin’ and rollin’, The Electric Mayhem embarks on an epic musical journey to finally record their first studio album. With the help of a driven young music exec, the endlessly cool, iconic Muppet rock band – featuring Dr. Teeth, Sgt. Floyd Pepper, Janice, Lips, Zoot, and Animal – must get their act in gear as they come face to face with the crazy, contemporary music scene in their quest to finally go platinum.”

The show was created by Disney in 2022 and aired in May 2023.

According to Variety, “Adam F. Goldberg co-created the series along with Barretta and Jeff Yorkes. Both Goldberg and Barretta also served as executive producers with Yorkes co-executive producing. Goldberg executive produced via Adam F. Goldberg Productions along with Michael Bostick. Kris Eber, David Lightbody, and Leigh Slaughter also executive produced. ABC Signature and The Muppets Studio produced.”

Yorkes shared on X, “What a long, strange trip it’s been! The highs (thanks Zoot!), the lows… A huge thank you to our loyal fans and viewers. I hope audiences continue to discover our little show and that it brings them some joy… and some Mayhem!! Rock on!!”

While the show included some light content issues, it promoted strong, family-centered, moral values.

THE MUPPETS MAYHEM is a Disney Plus comedy series about the Muppet’s band, The Electric Mayhem, and their hijinks in the music industry. Nora, an ambitious record label assistant looking to make a break, sees her chance to produce an album with the band. She convinces them to join her by pretending to be the head of her studio. The Muppets take her on a wild ride of mischief making, while teaching her the value of family, reconciliation and honesty.

Season One of THE MUPPETS MAYHEM is a fun, entertaining watch for families and older children. Many celebrities make quest appearances, including Morgan Freeman, Paula Abdul, Chris Stapleton, and Ryan Seacrest. Strong moral values come through when the main character learns how to be real and genuine with her friends after facing the bad consequences of lying to the band. Strong positive themes of family and reconciliation appear in the series. Finally, other characters work through conflicts in a healthy, loving manner. THE MUPPETS MAYHEM has some light innuendos, but nothing explicit. Pagan spirituality and irresponsible behaviors like partying and vandalism also appear.
