Google released its “Year is a Search” earlier this week, unveiling the internet’s most popular queries and revealing this year’s most notable people and events.

Jeremy Renner was the most searched actor of the year due to his catastrophic snowplow accident, from which he has made an incredible recovery. This landed him as the second most searched person of the year, topped only by Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin, whose near-death cardiac arrest during a game in January caught the heart of the nation.

Other notable people from the year include Matthew Perry, whose passing made a great impact. Following his death, the Matthew Perry Foundation was created to help those struggling with addiction and substance abuse.

As for the world of entertainment, BARBIE topped the list, followed by OPPENHEIMER. SOUND OF FREEDOM also placed among the top five, proving that uplifting faith-based movies can majorly impact culture.

Netflix dominated television with four of the top five shows originating from the platform: WEDNESDAY, GINNY & GEORGIA, ONE PIECE, and KALEIDOSCOPE.

Soccer was the most popular sport, as three of the top five most searched sports teams came from the game. Superstar Lionel Messi’s transfer shot the U.S.-based Inter Miami FC to the top of the list.

Other top five lists from Google include news, recipes, parks, museums and songs. The lists can also be specified by country, providing a more detailed look into how trends reached different parts of the world.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Google is expanding its annual roundup, providing a look at 25 years of entertainment searches. This “Time Capsule” gives insights into the most popular searches in the last 25 years for categories like movies, TV shows, athletes and video games.

Time Capsule and Year in a Search are now available to explore.
