Former NFL Star Benjamin Watson Leads Post-Roe Era at March for Life

By Movieguide® Contributor

Benjamin Watson, former tight end for the New England Patriots, recently traded his football for a pen.

The NFL star wrote “The New Fight for Life: Roe, Race and a Pro-life Commitment to Justice,” a book on how the pro-life movement needs to be reformed since the reversal of Roe V. Wade.

“We are in a new fight for life,” Watson said. “We are a year past Roe being overturned and I think over this last year, so many of us who call ourselves pro-life have tried to figure out what does that mean now for a pro-life movement that wants to make abortion both unthinkable and unnecessary.”

“In his book, he suggests that Americans are in a new fight for life in a couple of different ways,” News Nation reported. “Watson said there is an opportunity right now to show those opposed to the pro-life movement that pro-lifers do care about life after birth.”

An outspoken advocate for lives unborn and born, Watson serves as the Vice President of Strategic Relationships for the Human Coalition. The coalition stresses the value of life for both mothers and their unborn children.

“We’re a year removed from the Dobbs case…when Roe was overturned. And for me, being that I’ve been involved in pro-life advocacy in different capacities, it was a time of celebration.” Watson told Fox News Digital.

“But also there was a sense of…trepidation a bit because I was wondering, ‘Is the pro-life movement, are we ready for what this means?’ And what does this mean, like what’s next? What does pro-life advocacy look like in a post-Roe era?” he said.

Besides books and behind-the-scenes work for the Human Coalition, Watson uses his influence on social platforms to talk about the value of life and speaks at pro-life events.

Watson will speak at the March for Life Rally in Washington, D.C., today, Jan. 19. Movieguide® previously announced his presence at the event, along with some other notable names:

Pastor Greg Laurie announced on Wednesday that he, his wife Cathe Laurie and former NFL star Benjamin Watson will speak at 2024’s March for Life event, along with Christian artist Danny Gokey.

“Every year since 1974, pro-life advocates have gathered to spread a message of hope and life for innocent babies at risk of abortion and to help change the narrative in support of life,” the pastor said

CBN reported Wednesday,The theme of this year’s march is ‘With Every Woman, for Every Child,’ and is set to challenge abortion and champion ‘the beauty of life from the moment of conception,’ highlighting pregnancy centers and maternity homes that support women and families in need during and after pregnancy.”
