Why Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Isn’t Afraid to Share the Gospel: ‘Called’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone just released her new book, “Far Beyond Gold: Running From Fear to Faith,” on Jan. 30.
She joined the TODAY show to discuss the book and share why she isn’t afraid to share the Gospel.
“We’re called as Christians to share the Gospel,” she said after being asked why she openly talks about her faith. “For me, fear was such a huge part of my life. It consumed everything. Who I was and hindered me from what God called me to. And He was gracious and set me free from that. Being able to share my story helps people seek Him and have an inheritance far beyond gold.”
As with all sports, anxiety is common. The pressures of performance and the outcome weigh heavily on an athlete.
McLaughlin-Levrone knows about that all too well and described how her faith has helped her find freedom from anxiety.
“I think that’s [anxiety] something everybody struggles with, especially as an athlete when you are running for so many seconds and you train for that your whole life, it comes down to a small margin,” she said. “It can have a lot of weight and pressure. But I think my faith has allowed me to run the race that God set out for me and do it in His glory.”
McLaughlin Levrone expressed her excitement for the book on Instagram.
The Olympic champion wrote, “I am so beyond grateful for the opportunity to share my story and testimony with the world. For majority of my life I had an unhealthy relationship with fear. It controlled everything, until God’s grace granted me true and lasting freedom by way of Jesus Christ, and my prayer is that this book will encourage readers to seek the one who grants lasting freedom resulting in an inheritance that is Far Beyond Gold!”
In “Far Beyond Gold: Running From Fear to Faith,” the athlete details the challenges and “aspects of her life story and personhood she has never shared publicly before, offering a more complex picture of who she is.”
Movieguide® recently reported on McLaughlin Levrone and her balance between physical and spiritual training:
In an interview with Fit For The King, the track-and-field star discussed how she balances physical training with spiritual training.
“More so now than ever, but I think growing up the idea of perseverance and working towards a goal and every day becoming better and wanting to learn, I truly believe that coincides so much with my walk with God and pushing towards hearing the ‘Well done my good and faithful servant,’” she began.
McLaughlin-Levrone then quoted 1 Corinthians 10:31, which reads, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
“I think that…now motivates me in track. I don’t think I was as aware of it growing up, but I do believe that they work so well together, and I can truly see Good in my running and in my performances,” McLaughlin-Levrone said.
