FROZEN (2010)

Quality:

**

Content:

-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.

FROZEN is a somewhat tedious thriller about three college friends who find themselves trapped on a ski chair lift with the resort shutting down, leaving them to frostbite and wolves. While the acting is strong, FROZEN contains plenty of grisly, scary violence and foul language, requiring extreme caution.

THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES

Quality:

***

Content:

-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.

In THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES, an animated science fiction comedy on Netflix, all Katie wants to do is get to film college, but her father decides the family should drive Katie to college and, along the way, the family finds themselves in the middle of a robot apocalypse. THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES is odd and quirky in a fun way, with great animation and strong morally uplifting, pro-family themes, but the story is a bit too longwinded.

INCREDIBLES 2

Quality:

****

Content:

+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)

In INCREDIBLES 2, the sequel to Pixar and Disney’s classic animated movie, Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and their children spring into action once again when a supervillain hypnotizes innocent civilians to harm others. INCREDIBLES 2 is another fun, exciting, family-friendly superhero movie with lots of humor and heart, but it contains a couple light expletives and some scary elements requiring caution for younger children.

MONSTERS VS. ALIENS

Quality:

****

Content:

+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)

MONSTERS VS. ALIENS is an action-packed animated spoof of 1950s science fiction movies, about a group of monsters sent by the government to defeat a tyrannical alien out to destroy and enslave the people of Earth. The fun – and the comedy – never lets up in MONSTERS VS. ALIENS, which has a lot of cartoon action violence and witty comedy.

ZOOTOPIA

Quality:

****

Content:

-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.

ZOOTOPIA is an animated adventure comedy about a rookie bunny rabbit policewoman working in a vast animal metropolis, who teams up with a sly, streetwise fox to solve a case of a dozen predatory animals who’ve mysteriously disappeared. Some of the animals go berserk in scary ways in a couple scenes, but ZOOTOPIA is funny, exciting, heartwarming, and beautifully animated. It has something for everyone, including positive references to God, prayer and miracles and a positive view of police work for media-wise parents and their older children.

TROLLS

Quality:

****

Content:

+2 Moderately questionable elements.

TROLLS is a delightful animated comedy about the famous Troll dolls, in a story about Princess Poppy trying to save her friends from the troll eating Bergens, with assistance from an unhappy, fearful troll named Branch. With only one adult innuendo as a joke and 3 OMG’s, TROLLS is an adorable, fun, funny animated movie the family can enjoy.

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE

Quality:

****

Content:

-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE is an animated comic book adventure where different incarnations of Spider-Man from other dimensions, including two females and a talking pig, team together to stop a ruthless crime boss from destroying reality by using a gigantic machine to bring back his dead wife and son. Playful and lively, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE is an exciting, funny movie with lots of action, heart, and faith, but there’s plenty of intense action violence, so caution is advised for children.
