PADDINGTON is based on the beloved children’s books about a friendly talking bear from “deepest, darkest Peru” who comes to London to find a new home and gets into all sorts of comical and exciting adventures. PADDINGTON is a pure delight. It’s also very funny, winsome and absolutely charming, with some minor questionable elements, but nothing salacious.
TROLLS BAND TOGETHER is a wonderful, heartfelt, clean, moral movie about brothers and sisters learning to love each other so they can defeat evil singers trying to steal their talent. TROLLS BAND TOGETHER has great music, great character arcs, impressive amount of love and humor, with a moral theme of not letting anyone steal your talent. There is a caution for younger children, because there are some scary scenes as well as the death and resurrection of one character.
+1Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
LILO & STITCH is a live-action remake of the 2002 animated science fiction comedy about a lonely 6-year-old orphaned girl in Hawaii who longs for a friend and finds an escaped alien creature who crash-lands on Earth and pretends to be a dog, but who causes all sorts of trouble. The live action LILO & STITCH is lots of fun, with touching moments of rescue and redemption, as well as love and family.
+1Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON is about the scrawny but brainy son of a Viking chieftain who helps the community end a 300-year feud with fire-breathing dragons. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON is funny, entertaining, exciting, and heart-warming family fun, with a redemptive message, but some of the action may be too scary for very young children.
+1Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
In the animated movie PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH, Puss in Boots realizes he’s on his last life, so he needs to find the Last Wish star and ask for more lives. Funny and exciting, PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH is well made and has a strong Christian, moral worldview that includes Christian references and promotes being less selfish and reckless, thinking of others before yourself, and loving your family, but there are some scary characters and moments.
+4Biblical, usually Christian, worldview, with no questionable elements whatsoever.
CHARLOTTES’ WEB is a live action movie of the beloved children’s novel, about a young farm girl named Fern, a small pig named Wilbur, and a spider named Charlotte. CHARLOTTE’S WEB is a radiant delight for children of all ages, a brilliantly plotted movie filled with positive moral messages and signs of God’s grace penetrating ordinary life.
THE SECRET GARDEN tells the story of an orphaned girl who goes to live in England with an uncle in a melancholy manor. She discovers her deceased aunt’s secret garden and with some new friends brings the garden and thus herself back to life. The film is beautifully photographed, contains interesting performances and has a poignant message of death and rebirth. However, there is one instance of a children’s magical fantasy incantation.
