NCIS’ agent Timothy McGee, played by Sean Murray, teased how this season will wrap up — and added details about his character’s son, Mateo, whom he didn’t know he had until earlier this year.

“McGee has always prided himself on being a great father, so now that Mateo is in his life, he’s trying to make up for lost time,” Murray told TV Insider. “He may not get it the first time around but he keeps trying to find that connection to build a relationship.”

His character hopes that his son will follow in his footsteps.

“We will just have to wait and see,” said Murray.

The Season 23 finale, “Sons and Daughters,” will air on Tuesday, May 12.

McGee will shine in the case of an alley bombing, which he realizes is connected to another explosion that occurred earlier in the year.

Murray said of the episode, “McGee loves investigating and getting to the center of it all.” Fans can “expect what everyone loves about our show and then some,” he says.

As for the loss of Director Leon Vance earlier this season, Murray said, “McGee will mourn the loss of Vance for a long time and as Sean, the friendship I made with Rocky [Carroll] is going to last forever.”

Diona Reasonover, who plays forensic scientist Kasie Hines, hinted the finale will hold a surprise.

She told Us Weekly, “One of our leaders, Mr. Timothy McGee, is in for a big surprise at the end of the season.” He’ll have “his relationship and his heart tested in a way that we are not going to see coming.”

Murray previously hinted that McGee will also have a character arc in the finale.

“McGee is always pushing himself to be better and improve, but at the same time, I think sometimes when these circumstances, these new situations, come up for him, it can be pretty scary for him too,” Murray said.

As for a new director, Katrina Law, who plays Jessica Knight, said it’s all “up in the air,” but she also hinted one of the current personnel may move forward and fulfill the role.

“You never know who’s going to come on the show or who might move up — or come back,” she said.

Reasonover added that the finale will have a cliffhanger that leaves viewers with more questions than answers.

In a sneak peek of the episode, Vance’s daughter, who is also an NCIS agent, confesses to Jess how much she misses her dad. Jess’ dad was also an agent.

“Are we honoring the legacy? Or trying to outrun it?” Jess asks.

Tune into the episode on May 12.
