Veteran advocate Gary Sinise and actor Joe Mantegna will host PBS’s National Memorial Day Concert once again, an extra special event this year as America celebrates its 250th anniversary.
“Tony Award-winner @joemantegna and Emmy Award-winner @garysiniseofficial return to host the 37th annual National Memorial Day Concert, with a talented ensemble cast paying tribute to America’s fallen heroes. Join us live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol as we honor the sacrifice of our service men and women and their families on Sunday, May 24th, 8/7c,” PBS reported on Monday.
The show will feature Noah Wyle, Melissa Leo, Andy Grammer, Mickey Guyton, Jonathan Banks, Jamey Johnson, Mary McCormack, Blessing Offor, Laura Osnes and Alan Jackson.
“As our nation marks 250 years, we honor the heroic service and sacrifice of our military and their families,” Mantegna said in a video promoting the concert.

In a press release, Mantegna added, “We honor and remember all our American heroes, from the all-volunteer force that won our independence in the American Revolution to the over one-million men and women who have given their lives since our nation’s founding 250 years ago.”
“Joe and I are deeply honored to co-host this 37-year tradition at the U.S. Capitol and salute those who have worn the uniform – past and present — and their families who have stood beside them,” Sinise said.
The concert will feature six different segments.
The 1776 American Revolution segment, which features Emmy-winner Wyle, will “bring the history of 1776 alive with a special tribute to the citizen soldiers and militia men of the thirteen colonies who took tremendous risks for future generations of Americans.”
“These heroes embarked on a war with the world’s greatest military power to win our independence, enduring brutal conditions and often with no pay. The experience of one of these brave American Revolutionary militiamen who fought for General George Washington will be shared,” PR Newswire reported.
Banks (BREAKING BAD) will then present the WWII 85th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor segment, which will “highlight this monumental time in American history, which galvanized the entire nation, and honor the millions of men and women who left their farms and factories, big cities and small towns to serve in uniform and on the home front. Members of this Greatest Generation will be saluted on stage.”
Additionally, Leo appear in the 25th Anniversary Remembrance of 9/11 Attacks portion. The “commemoration will share the story of one of the heroes who faced the unthinkable in the rescue and recovery efforts at the Pentagon, and pay tribute to all those who died that tragic day.”
The concert will also include a Vietnam War Veterans Tribute and a Gold Star Families Tribute.
Tune in to PBS on Sunday, May 24, at 8/7c to watch the National Memorial Day Concert.
