BLUEY: THE MOVIE will be written and directed by the show’s creator, Joe Brumm. Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack, who voice Bluey’s mom and dad, respectively, will reprise their roles. Ludo Studios and BBC Studios will produce the project.
“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3,” Brumm said in a press release, referring to a popular episode of BLUEY that received a Movieguide® Teddy Bear Award® nomination. “So going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought BLUEY deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together.”
Daley Pearson and Charlie Aspinwall, co-founders and directors at Ludo Studio, added, “Over the past eight years, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside an extraordinary team of more than fifty artists and producers whose talent, dedication, and creativity have shaped BLUEY into the beloved series it is today. Their work has paved the way for this incredible opportunity to expand Bluey’s world onto the big screen.”
“We’re excited to continue showing Queensland as a home for world-class talent and to share a new beautiful BLUEY story by Joe Brumm with families around the world,” they concluded.
This isn’t the only exciting new project in the world of BLUEY — a video game based on the show is set to launch later this year on the motion-powered console Nex Playground.
“Through Nex Playground, we’re bringing the beloved world of BLUEY off the screen and into the living room, transforming favorite moments from the show into [an] active, shared experience,” Nex co-founder and CEO David Lee said. “From jumping and dancing to bouncing and playing a game of squash, families can immerse themselves in cooperative and competitive mini-games inspired by iconic episodes like ‘Musical Statues,’ ‘Keepy Uppy,’ and ‘Asparagus’–all designed to spark movement, imagination, and togetherness.”
BBC Studios global director of gaming and interactive Marina Mello added, “We believe that play and by extension, gaming, has the power to bring families closer together, so partnering with Nex was a natural fit. Nex’s unique technology allows fans of all ages to quite literally ‘jump’ into the fun together.”
From a big screen adventure in 2027 to the BLUEY video game debuting this fall, BLUEY fans have plenty to look forward to!
